What do you think?
With Vilma taking Goodell to court and people saying that the coaches didn't vehemently deny anything took place and so that was kind of an admission, could the coaches apply for reinstatement if Goodell is found wanting? I've know some people have said they can't as it is different for them but I want to bring up two points, if I may:
1) If there is very little to no evidence, certainly not enough to warrant the punishments given out, then surely the coaches can't be accused of hiding it. If I have nothing in my hand and close it, what am I hiding from you? 2) The lack of denial would not be an implication of guilt. Maybe it happened because Payton asked the coaches and players to stop and they did but when told the NFL had evidence he assumed that it hadn't stopped and realised that as the boss the buck stopped with him and so didn't bother to fight it. The whole thing about this is that the evidence that has been shown so far is certainly not enough to beat someone down as much as Goodell has. There is surely more than enough reasonable doubt about the accusations to bring this to court. What any court would be able to do, or whether they would be any more open minded than Roger himself, remains to be seen.
If other owners would man up and realize the danger this guy they voted in as commissioner poses to the long term prosperity of the league, they could vote him out and then we could see these suspensions lifted. But just as Goodell doesn't want to admit his many mistakes, I don't think the owners want to admit how stupid they were to let this guy in, by voting him out. Also there would have to be some kind of exception made to even be able to vote, as I don't believe they can normally do that until his contract runs out. Then they might simply decide not to keep him. But none of them want to attract attention that would suggest that they are on the side of a team that has been painted as a group of assassins. At least that's the feeling I'm getting. Hopefully it's just gas. |
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

I am all for player safety but players must take some responsibility for playing a game where injuries and long term problems are likely to occur.

I think he has autonomous power and can't be voted out. I believe that was one of the sticking points that had the CBA held up.
