Now we have Brees going public for the first time.
He called the delay "extremely frustrating." "I didn't think the negotiating should have been this difficult," Brees said. ''But here we are. I'd like to think this is certainly a priority." Here's what we know. When the Saints stepped in and rolled the dice on a quarterback coming back from a major injury to his throwing shoulder, they did Brees, you might say, the biggest favor of his career. And what did Brees do in return? He handed Benson, the Saints and Coach Sean Payton the biggest bargain in the history of the franchise. How much would you say the six-year, $60 million contract Brees signed in 2006 was worth to the Saints? Maybe $20 million in added revenue and exposure? Think again. I think it's maybe both. Plus my spidey sense tells me from reading between the lines is that I almost think the whole thing might be hung up on the specific number amount for that first year of the contract. Like both sides agree generally to make Drew the highest paid player, this will be his last contract, he will retire a Saint, blah blah blah and a big huge number for the total contract that they all agree on. But then maybe Loomis has a specific number in mind for 2012, because he wants to wiggle money around later in the contract, he wants the payout to be for when the cap changes later on or other players are gone. ..and meanwhile Condon has a 2012 number in mind, and they are just not the same number. That's my hunch about it. |

Well, we could sure use the morale boost ...
I'm admittedly on the "pay the man" bandwagon. I might be more reticent if not for the sickening offseason the Saints are having. At this point, we really need some good news, even if we gotta hold our nose to get it. |

I really hope in the next few days at least by 6-1-12 we will see this get done. Loomis has not really let us or his organization down yet and has found a way to get us good players. I agree with M10 we just have to have something positive to jolt us or at least me out of this funk after all that has happened. I think Brees is a smart guy and there has to be something creative they could work out to give him the security he is looking for. It has irked me that maybe Brees would not give in a little bit or that his agent has not came up with something other than money that would make the difference. Pissed off that Vick could actually be paid more than Breees but does anyone believe that anyone would want Vick to be part of their organization for life. This is something I think that could bridge the gap and somrthing I would like to see on the table.

The other side of my mind is saying "get back to reality". No one player is the team. Fact is, it is a matter of who is going to blink first. Eventually things will get done. I truly believe it will. |

Ok I believe that. Question why did Drew turned it down. He wanted more money up front. I don't want to say they own Drew they don't. But Drew is worth every dime you give him and more. On and off the field. Make Drew Brees Happy ! |
