The Times-Picayune
By Ryan Jones, Staff writer

Malcolm Jenkins didn't even own golf clubs until fellow New Orleans Saints safety Roman Harper bought him a set last summer, but he spent his last day before New Orleans' organized team activities on the links Monday.

Michael DeMocker / The Times-Picayune New Orleans Saints safeties Malcolm Jenkins and Roman Harper say things will change with the defense this season.

some key points i liked

Harper said that new defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has already introduced major changes to the playbook in a departure from former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams' scheme.

"It's totally different," Harper said. "There are a lot more eyes on the ball, not as much (man-on-man defense), and (we're) just trying to make plays on the ball."

things that made me chuckle.

Jenkins and Harper agreed that Brees' absence might lead to an atmosphere more conducive to learning a new defensive playbook.

"I forgot the hearing was last week," Jenkins said.

"We may have lost the game, but you'll be hurting tomorrow." Doug Atkins

They might be right tho...lets face it....the speed that offense goes even in practice probably makes it harder, especially for rookies, to know exactly where they need to be & when. With a brand new defense it will hard to try to keep up with that Offense in practice. With Brees out for OTA's (hopefully not all of OTA's) I bet you it slows down enough for the Defense to get up to speed. When Drew comes back they'll at least be a lot more familiar with the playbook and schemes because they've have the time to because when Drew is there, there is only one speed....full throttle...Learn you're playbook or get burned (well...really you'll get burned either way but at least you know you were in the right position when Drew burned you...meaning you'll make that pick, sack, etc. if it were any other QB. LOL)

I feel the same way....the guy plays well in the Pre season IMO. I think he gets overlooked because he doesn't see playing time in the reg season...even when we're up by like 20-25 in the 4th. I've notice that he's very mobile and can get away from pressure well. He's not as accurate as Drew but he can make a lot of the throws. He just needs work on decision making I think but I think this time with the 1s can help him in that department.
