Great players are what make a team great period. You take away Brees this team goes back to the doldrums. It is what it is as far as money for top quarterbacks and other teams have already set that mark. Either you pay for a franchise quarterback or your team goes nowhere. If you don't what to be in the running for a title keep your money and watch other teams in the playoffs. Move on with Daniels and this team is going down.

FACT: Drew Brees is without a doubt the heart and soul of this franchise.
FACT: We are a team loaded with talent. FACT: We can't keep as much talent if we pay Drew what he wants.......err Tom Condon wants. |

Chase is a definate drop off from Drew...BUT.... all the extra cash could be used for more star players...and Drew has to realize this as well as that he has a chance to break Johnny U's TD record...that is HUGE

I dunno... rather you go with Chase now or 3 years later ... it will happen.
I would like to have Drew for a few more years but I think Chase would be just fine Besides... our true star is sitting out for one season. JMHO |

Yes I know, he does deserve every cent he gets. So did Payton Manning, but what that get the colts? My point Drew is a God down on the bayou, but do we bend to those demands?

I have loved this team ever since I could say Saints. My love, hate, love relationship with this team will always be there. Even if Drew, SP and any other great player that we have now, were to never have come here; I would still love this team. Their "record" doesn't dictate if I love this team.
I love this team for reasons I can't explain. Other than that boys; I don't care who is coaching, QB, RB or what. I will always love this team. |

Having Drew has been great, and we all hope it continues that way, but one man does not make a team. He is merely part of it. I'm tired of hearing that we sucked without Drew. Of course we did, but we also sucked before Sean Payton, and Marques Colston, Jahri Evans, Carl Nicks, Lance Moore, Pierre Thomas, etc. My point is that Drew didn't come here by himself and single handedly turn us around. He has been the biggest part, and for that I would like him to stay, but he's still one part. And there is a little something called integrity that goes a long way. Sometimes you have to let a really good player go to make a point that no one is bigger than the team, if that player is making it clear he thinks of himself that way. There's no room for big heads on a championship team. I never imagined I would have to question the integrity of Drew Brees, but right now I do. I'm not saying he has none, because he may yet do the right thing. We'll just have to see. |
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

1. If the CBA DOES in fact dictate that this is a second FT and it should carry a 20% premium, then that is what should legally and ethically be paid... And it IS not an issue of Condon or Brees.
2. It is what it is, and it seems it is an agreement between the league, NFLPA, and owners. I find no fault with either Brees or Condon. I wouldn't give a concession either. If my Boss owed me a bonus, and was legally bound to pay that bonus, I would stick to my guns also. At the end of the day what matters most to Brees is his family, over the team or the fans, and that is the way it should be. Sort of like being told by your electrician that he has a 4 hour minimum, singing a contract before he starts work that you understand and agree, and just because he fixed your problem in 15 minutes you do not want to pay his 4 hour minimum..... In this case because Drew is so close to the team and city, Ill make that electrician your cousin. As I have said before, most people want to leverage New Orleans signing Drew to a contract when they did was doing him a favor.... Well that favor has been returned by Drew by playing for the low ball rate he was paid in comparison to his value... Drew could have (as a lot of players do), come back to the team after 2009 and demanded a new contract because he was grosly being underpaid for his performance and didn't. "According to SI's Peter King, the Saints "feel they should be credited for taking a medical risk" on unsigned franchise player Drew Brees in 2006. With the sides mired in contract stalemate, the Saints believe they deserve a break for being the only team willing to give Brees $10 million per season as came off shoulder surgery in 2006. That line of thinking is unlikely to move a player who hasn't missed a game with injury in six seasons in New Orleans. May 21 - 9:33 AM" Drew Brees - New Orleans Saints - 2012 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com In 2006 Brees contract was for 60M... 10M a year... Grossly underpaid for his performance. The Saints are not owed a credit for risk.... Brees is owed back pay for value/performance vs pay. Hold their feet to the fire Drew. You earned it and you are worth it. |
