Adding rookie gives Saints versatile trio of defensive ends

One of the many pearls of wisdom Jim Haslett gleaned from Raiders owner Al Davis during his two-year stint as an Oakland assistant concerned draft strategy.

"Al told me, 'In the first round, you always take guys that score touchdowns or guys that prevent them, like cornerbacks and defensive linemen,' " Haslett said.

Those words popped into Haslett's head when he was asked about the Saints' decision to select yet another defensive lineman in the first round of the NFL draft.
