Coaching Sessions

The saints began 2 weeks of coaching sessions today. Observations by members of the media and interviews with some of the coaches and players produced these takes:

Courtney Watson is picking things up at a very fast pace and will push for a starting job. All jobs on defense are open to competition and the best 11 players will start regardless of who they are, where they were drafted, or how much experience they have.

Donte' Stallworth looked real good. He caught the ball very well and now has an excellent grasp of the offense.

Deuce McAllister looked to be in the best shape yet of his career.

Brooks and Bouman threw a lot of deep balls today with accuracy.

The team expects to keep an extra WR(6) and an extra DL(8) this year. Therefore they won't be able to keep as many players on the roster for the sole purpose of special teams play. This marks the end of Fred McAfees stint with the Saints as they will not pursue resigning him.

Sullivan IS carrying a gut on him which he will need to lose and shape up somewhat.

Jason Craft is a Dale Carter clone.

Coaching Sessions

What are the chances of McAfee getting into coaching? He\'s been too good for too long not to have the ability.

I know Bennie Thompson is a special teams coach now, and while he didn\'t finish his career as a Saint, he was one of the hardest hitters to ever wear a Fleur de Lis.

Fred also played under Bill Cowher, who as I recall got his start as special teams coach.

Maybe it\'s wishful thinking on my part. Maybe it\'s loyalty to a good player and not wanting to see him out of the game, but it would be great to see him pick up a clipboard if he has to hang up the spikes.

It\'s not a question of whether or not the Saints will win the Super Bowl this year. It\'s a question of which Saint will be the MVP of the game.

What do you mean I\'m not supposed to snort the granola?
