Reggie was so good coming out of college. It's like someone said, "Sproles did everything we expected Reggie to do!" Is it possible, though, that Reggie has been heavily accounted for ever since he came into the league?

Is it possible that with everybody paying so much attention to Reggie, other players were allowed to flourish, like Colston as an example. To take it a step further, is it really stretching to say that once people started paying attention to the other guys after Reggie left that they were able to do some of the things they always wanted to do with Reggie but couldn't because they were paying so much attention to him being on the field.

I think that another poster said that we might have a clearer view a couple of years later, but since RB's have such a short career expectancy...we just may never know.
Reggie didn't get near the attention many claim he did.

It sure seemed like there was...especially his rookie year. He got banged up a lot, too. I'm not arguing, but I am only trying to account for why he wasn't able to do the things he did in college with such frequency.

I know that your first response is that people are a lot faster in the NFL, but others have met the challenge and continued to excel in the pros.

I am only wondering out loud because it is curious that someone who had such success in college would struggle so in the pros.

Aside from the injuries, I think part of it is the offensive scheme he played in at NO in that he was as much of a pass receiver as a running back ... and when you got a QB like Drew, that's just the way it is.

Look at his first year with MIA ... who's their QB? Henning? Moore? Who's the other running backs? He's not sharing the load and gets twice as many carries as in NO, a lot fewer passes, so he busts out a 1000yd+ season ... plus he stayed healthy all season ... it's one of those 'right place/right time' deals for him & I think he's going to have some good seasons with MIA.

I never have understood why guys who think a thread is yesterday's news or beating a dead horse don't just move on to another thread rather than trying to squash a thread. Try to look at it this way...

If you are the author of the thread, would you appreciate someone trying to shoot the thread down? I didn't think so. We try to treat everyone like family here...for the most part...and it is out of courtesy that we hold our snide remarks to a minimum and that is why we all love this place.

Personally, I have never seen a thread that compared Bush and Sproles and I thought it was a good topic...but then I don't live on the board so I am sure I might have missed one or two.

Typically I'm a stat nerd but in this case, I'll go with what I felt when I was watching them play.

When Sproles gets the ball I'm hoping he jukes a tackler and scores a touchdown.

When Reggie got the ball, I just hoped he'd run forward.

Yes, Bush was a disappointment in N.O. But a lot of that was due his being drafted so high and our unrealistic expectations. I think Reggie tried too mhard to live up to those expectations and it really hurt his game. I can understand the criticism because he did drive me crazy with the dancing, fumbles, bad punt returns etc.

But I think many people go over board in their criticism. Reggie was a valuable member of the team and became one the best third down backs in the NFL. He also handled the situation like a man and didn't sulk or become a malcontent.

Best of luck to him where ever he plays and in his future after football.

(And thank the football gods that we got Darren Sproles.)

Agreed Boutte. Reggie had his place on our team. One of the best all-purpose receivers and decoy on any club I've see. I believe he was instrumental in getting us to the SuperBowl because he was part of the Sean Payton MACHINE.

All first-round draft picks are over-hyped and I think there's actually a mental syndrome surrounding most.
