Longtime New Orleans defensive line coach John Pease returned this spring for his first off-season with the Saints in a decade.

He's starting to like the new version.

"They are very athletic. There's a lot of speed," said Pease, who got his first look at the 2004 line during last month's voluntary coaching sessions. "A couple of guys showed up a little overweight. But once they get their weight down, the speed factor should be very, very impressive."

Pease - who coached the Saints line under Jim Mora in the late 1980s and early 1990s - isn't ready to compare this group to his legendary crew during the Dome Patrol era. Not yet.

now this is actually one of the better posts posted in a while........pease did put fans in the stadium just for the joy of watching their defense try and kill the opposing qb.....any level of where we were then is an upgrade.........
has pease lost it? i doubt it..........if anything he comes with more to offer than has been seen in a long time on defense......just running on 7 cylinders will have many fans saying, did you see that? hold on to your hats boys, you\'re gonna see a defense you have\'nt seen in a long time.........and this is good...............
this actually puts a big grin on my face and solidifies my predictions on the upcoming season.
and best of all, it continues to make me shake my head in silence on the negative posts from those who continue to see us doomed for eternity.
as steve mcqueen put it so bluntly in papillon, \" i\'m still here you bastards\"..............
i have to believe that all of you are still here as well............
just that, well, you have to get off the fence and show it......swamee

Good article. Strange name for it though. The \"Dome Patrol\" was the name given to our LB group of Jackson, Swilling, Johnson, and Mills. This would be like referring to offensive linemen on the Notre Dame team that included the 4 Horsemen as such or the same of the DBs on the Rams teams that featured the fearsome foursome.

Pease will be coaching the defensive line, not the linebackers. On second thought, maybe he should explain to them what type of players made up the \"Dome Patrol\".
