Make this trade!!!

For the last few weeks I have heard from many different sources including this site that the Saints might be interested in making a trade for Mike McKenzie. I have sat back and read public opinion (both good and bad) and have come up with my own: it would be a very big mistake for the Saints to make this trade. However, with new rumors swirling about the Ravens shopping Chris McAlister I can't help but feel the opposite way. McAlister is the premier shutdown corner in the NFL. He could give the Saints a huge on the field boost this season and for years to come. I know many fans think the Saints should wait to draft Corey Webster next year but lets be real the only way the Saints are going to be able to be in that position is if they have a crappy season and who wants that? McAlister would give the Saints a lot of flexibility in their defensive scheme by shutting down an entire section of the field, imagine the possibilites, especially during blitz packages! We have the means to make this trade and we have the money set aside to sign him to a long term deal. Hell if all they want is a first and second rounder for next years draft then give it to them. Nobody in next years draft is going to be near as good as McAlister and we have two second rounders, we can't lose. So Saints fans this time I went first now let me know what you think about my opinion. But please remember this the most valuable commodity on any defense is a good secondary, imagine our team if we had a great one for a change. :)

The most valuable commodity on defense is a good run stopping front seven.

Otherwise, if McAlister is available, I say get him. I would trade as much as both second round picks for McAlister. Granted I didn\'t get a chance to see how he did last year, but I remember a savage CB worth paying for!

Spartan,

(1) Where did you hear this rumor?

(2) Do the Ravens need a WR?

I heard this rumor from this website as well as a Raven fans website. I hope it is true and so should all of you. Management could prove that they are really trying to win by putting this deal together. Of course they need a WR their most productive one last year was their tight end.

They are in need of a quality receiver. We could spare Pathon and his salary along with another player and or one of our second round picks.

Rumor Whirlwind

Despite early reports to the contrary, sources are now reporting that the Baltimore Ravens may be willing to trade away cornerback Chris McAllister for the right asking price. Immediately trade rumors tied to the Saints have managed to spring up. The likelihood of this is slim considering that Baltimore’s asking price is likely higher than the Saints would be willing to pay; however, don’t be surprised if you hear rumors involving these two teams popping up.

Unless my memory sucks, which is a possibility, give \'em Pathon and a 2nd rounder! Do it now!

I live in Baltimore, and the Ravens are my second team to cheer for, but I still bleed Black and Gold. I watched almost every Ravens game last year and McAllister started off slow but by like 3-4 he came around and he is a shutdown corner he shut down almost every teams #1 WR just look at the stats fir each game last year. And the ravens are in dying need of a WR so for any of the Saints WR\'s and a high pick the Ravens might bite buy I don\'t think they are going to let him get away he plays too big of a part in that D-fence.

Thats just my opinion.

Spartan, man i hear ya. When i read that rumor, i got excited as well. THAT\'s a guy worth excitement. McKenzie, with all due respect, is not. I know we are desperate for a decent CB, but i thought people were way over excited about McKenzie.

i live in the DC/Baltimore area and get to catch Ravens games, and he is solid. I think the term \'shutdown Corner\' is way over used. But he is close. But don\'t forget the rest of the Ravens defense can make almost any decent to above average CB look like a pro-bowler. (So insert grain of salt)

I agree with the team philosophy that if you want to stop the pass, you have to have a great rush. But we are definitely in need of any cornerback for depth, and this guy is someone who can be a difference maker in a game.

I honestly still don\'t think we\'re as deep and solid as the experts makes us out to be at WR. Once pads are put on and Donte stays healthy and Devery shows signs of not being a bust, then only can we say we look okay at the position, and dealing Pathon away is okay.

Last year, it seemed that one of our weaknesses was WR depth. When Horn was hurt, Donte always only \'possible\' for games, our offense lost games for us. Let\'s not forget that.

BUT.... it is easier to pick up a back up WR than to find a solid CB. So here\'s hoping things work out.
