Jimmy Graham isn’t thinking about “breaking the bank,” yet

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Brees was injured... Will finish as a Saint. This is not a season, there is no peaking "too early" for a player... Jimmy has raw natural ability and athleticism. Trade over my corpse....

No way Jimmy gets traded! The only way he doesn't stay a Saint is if we can't afford him, but Loomis will find a way...

From the way loomis works, Jimmy could ask for and get 400 mil, and it would increase our cap room by 89 mil.

You keep the core of players that you want and need then fill in around them with less expensive players.

Re: Jimmy Graham isn’t thinking about “breaking the bank,” yet

My comment about trading Graham has to do with AFFORDING him. He's peaking early, thus will cost us more to keep him for a career. AND he's got the nagging injury barrier between him and a big contract with the Saints.

Pay him what he's worth, maybe, but there will come a day when he will think he is worth more than he actually is, and then someone with a bigger checkbook will make him the offer we CAN'T.

I love Jimmy Graham playing for the Saints, but he's gonna want to get paid like a rockstar, not a member of a TEAM.

Peaking too early...........smh.....thats not peaking....its called being a diamond in the rough. The guy has only been playing the game of football since 2009....he's still learning the game and how to play his position. Once he learns how to be an better blocker....thats when you know he's hit his peak because even though he pretty much a match up problem for every NFL team now....he will officially be unstoppable when he perfects the blocking portion of his game...and by tha time....he'll most likely already be locked to be a Saint for the rest of his career....

Believe me he'll get paid. Just like Colston/Pierre/Moore who all have and still have nagging injuries but are key parts of this offense. The only time Jimmy's nagging injury came into play and really hurt us was his rookie year when he missed the playoff game against the Seahawks. And you can't really blame Jimmy for that blame GW's defense....

And yeah he possibly might ask for more than he's worth (which IMO, just like Brees, he's worth every penny) but I'm pretty sure Loomis has thought about that already.....and if he hasn't he'll have plenty of time to do so in the first 8 weeks of this season.

The NFL pays for past performance. It's just how it works. We will pay Jimmy what he is worth. If he gets injured this season, he is just about gone unless he accepts a cheap contract, if he plays 16 games +playoffs and comes even close to last year, he give him a fat extension. After that he can get injured, phone it in or whatever then get traded. I don't think he will, he doesn't seem like that type of guy, but more likely than not we are going to pay Jimmy handsomely next year (probably at the cost of the defense once again)

If he doesn't improve his blocking, he's going to get his QB broke.
