1. I never thought anyone would ever replace the Steelers as my favorite team. (It was 1986 when I actually realized Louisiana had a team and I became a Saints fan. I was more of a baseball fan in my early years).

2. I thought Onome Ojo was a steal in the draft.

3. I thought Jim Everett was going to take us to the promised land.

4. I thought Joe Horn was a bad signing.

5. I thought Vaughn Dunbar was going to become the all-time leading rusher in Saints history.

Please give NO MORE THAN 5 (...give others a chance to add to the list):

My blunders:

1. I thought that Earl Campbell still had a lot left in the tank, and would help make us a playoff contender. (NOT)!!

2. I thought that Mike Ditka would make the Saints a Super Bowl contender within 3 years. (YEAH, RIGHT)!

3. I assumed that Mike McKenzie would be a "locker room cancer" if the Saints picked him up (because of the problems he had with his contract in Green Bay). (OOPS)!

4. I felt that Steve Walsh would be a "gamer."

5. I thought that DeLa Puente was a horrible center, and would not make the team (...way, waaaaaaay off on that one)!

What's your list? Go all the way back to 1967 if you wish. You can also REPEAT something someone else said, but again, please limit it to five (5).

WhoDat!!!!!
1. I was very young, and very pissed when the Saints gave up the pick for Over-the-Hill Earl Campbell; Like my Dad, I knew Bum Phillips was an idiot...

2. Thought Ditka would be interesting, but until the front office was replaced (Bill Kuharich was awful); Buddy D was fun to laugh at, but when you follow his advice - you'd end up broke just like following his tips on the ponies...

3. Was excited to finally, finally have a cornerback - still have nightmares of Toi Cook...

4. Mora wanted Walsh and was more stubborn than Jimmy Johnson who wanted to keep Walsh and send us Aikman; this confirms story confirms Sean Payton as genius...

5. Didn't know where they'd find one, but knew the Saints Coaching Staff would find one despite Loomis screwing up and not finding a FA Center quicker and settling on the aged Kreutz; I was disappointed in Kreutz...

I thought Reggie would be "the man"

I saw Fourcade as a good QB

I thought Vaughn Dunbar was going to be an awesome RB

I thought the Saints would win a playoff game in the 80's

Re: The Official: Time to 'fess-up' THREAD...

I dunno if anyone ever seen my rants, but this is probably something I learned over many years that I may not regret even though hes now dead.

But I think Buddy D was a complete idiot and probably did more to hurt the Saints than help them.

I can remember plenty times he would defend Aaron Brooks, he lobbied to get Ditka hired as the Head Coach, Ditka is probably one of the worst coaches to ever win a Super Bowl up their with the ranks of Brian Billick and Barry Switzer, I think he was a complete 180 of what was reality, I listen to him on Radio plenty and maybe its no wonder why he ended up on Radio and off of Television, Jim Henderson and Buddy D was polar opposites when it came to Football and knowing the game.

Re: The Official: Time to 'fess-up' THREAD...

1. After going 5-1 during preseason, I thought the Saints were ready for a championship run in '67.

2. I thought Gary Cuozzo was a great acquisition for QB...he ended up getting beat-out by Billy Kilmer.

3. I thought the Saints were crazy for trying a FG against Detroit from 63 yds. out.

4. I thought the Saints had made the playoffs when they went into half with a huge lead against Oakland only to see Stabler enter the game in the 2nd half and erase what was at least a 21 pt lead. Saints lose following week and out of the playoffs.

5. I thought the Saints put themselves in FG range to tie the game against Redskins after Saints QB completed a pass that took them deep into Washington territory late in the game. Dexter Manley, however, spits on Jim Dombrowski, Dumbo retaliates and gets caught, gets a personal foul penalty nullifying the long play...and the Saints lose, lose the next week and miss the playoffs.

For the record...I am going entirely on memory here. I am relatively certain that #4 & #5 happened...I am not sure as to which game it was during the season, but it seems to me that both events happened in the 2nd to last game...and we still could've won to make the playoffs the next game...but we didn't...but I very well may be wrong about which game and how many they had left.

I thought I would be able to watch a Saints game and not see images of Katrina by now.

Wow; where have I been? I never knew that (and not ashamed to admit it).

Do you have a reference article somewhere?

Re: The Official: Time to 'fess-up' THREAD...

Only way I could see Jimmy Johnson wanting to keep Walsh was because Johnson was at Miami coaching Walsh.

When I was talking about Buddy D hurting the Saints more than help them, back in the 1980s, WWLTV did as much to hurt them as well, WWLTV hopped on the Bandwagon of teams winning championships, they drank the Miami koolaid in the 1980s focusing more on teams like Miami and not even look at LSU or Tulane, this is where the Saints organization got the idea to have Steve Walsh much like where the Saints organization got the idea to hire Mike Ditka from Buddy D.

Basically anything WWLTV related going as far back as 2004 has them completely screwing up the Saints.

I never even seen what they were doing with other teams back in the 80s and 90s all that much, just know WWL tried to make Louisiana sports 2nd rate, funny enough I think when WWL was on the Miami bandwagon was the same week the Saints completely blasted and shutout Elway and the Broncos and it got little attention.

In his latter years, Buddy was with WVUE (ABC, channel 8), IIRC.

1. I thought that Tom Dempsey's field goal would be our lasting greatest accomplishment (at least in my lifetime)

2. I thought Ditka did the right thing when he gave away all of our draft picks for Ricky Williams

3. I thought Mike McCarthy would become our next HC after Haslett

4. I wanted Culpepper over Brees

5. And finally, I thought it was stupid to promote Loomis , a non-football guy, to GM
