this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; We have a weak set of 4 down linemen. Watch the game tonight with San Fran. Their front 4 are lean, tall and evasive. 2 of our front 4 are fat and too slow. If we got pressure up front ...

If we got pressure up front no one would care about the DB's because they would not be depended on like they are now play after play. |

If we went out and blew our wad on DB's... heck if we had Charles Woodsen and Dion Sanders in their prime back there, we would not improve this D as much. Right now our DB's are stopping runs AND covering passes all over the field which means we're not stopping offenses at the at the line of scrimmage, nor are we getting penetration on opposing QB's. This problem goes back to BEFORE Gregg Williams with similar personnel. Just watch the game on tv tonight, the 49ers' DB's are NOT involved on every single play like the Saints. That's because they attack at the line of scrimmage. We do need to beef up the DB's, but first things first - acquire some d-linemen that can effectively attack the line of scrimmage. |

No way this team would make it back with that D that depended on turnovers as a driving force - a risky scheme at best.![]()
It's apparent to me this team is rebuilding its defense. As of today's game, our Defense is only slightly worse than last's season Gregg Williams' version. I think our front office can have the defense mostly improved by next season, but it's rare a new coordinator comes in with current personnel and the squad makes a total 180, especially on defense. For this season, our o-line run blocks well, the pass not so much. The offense needs to concentrate on more ball control because we have the horses and the line. Otherwise Drew does not have time to throw. That's how we can make a run this season. I saw us run/screen on Carolina at will. Grind the clock and keep the opposing offense off the field. Our defense is NOT our strong suit. |
