Re: Spags system will work but not yet(Warning lot of text).
I actually agree with a few points you made, BUT...
Maybe I'm in the minority here, but the Oline is hurting us. In Triplett's Film Review on NOLA.com, he claims the Oline had a near great game. Now, I'm no coach by any means, and I don't remember the exact stat line, but I think 1 sack, 5 hurries, 9 pressures... And that was in the early 4th qtr... What I remember most from Games 1 & 2 is Brees is either running out of the pocket, getting balls batted, guys in his grille & for the most part, very little time to throw. They may no be falling apart, but they haven't played great by any means. I do expect more conventional offenses to have more problem with our D. Couple that with the fact that they will learn more & gel better as they go, I haven't panicked yet. The WRs dropping passes has to stop. The weak penalties like false starts has to stop. But those are fixable problems. We've laid a couple of eggs. Its time to make some breakfast. :) |

Yeah, the O-line is a problem. Usually when our D sucks we can just score 40+ points and wipe the sweat off our brows. But now we're repeatedly getting 3 and outs and Drew is being popped every other play.

And yet for those 2 series, he was forced fumbled. 15-1 packer last year 8-8 chargers that got beat by tebow. You make no sense. The chargers are in no way the same team as the packers. |

Goofy you finally made an empirical post. I agree.
Thanks for leaving the word "Dynasty" out. We will be fine. |
Re: Spags system will work but not yet(Warning lot of text).
Have to disagree with the if Colston doesn't fumble out the endzone we beat Washington crap. It was under 2 minutes left and the defense stopped Washington and Tez blocked the punt and we scored a TD anyway with 14 seconds left in the half. The same as if Colston holds on to the ball and we score on the next play. Colston's fumble didn't hurt us in that game. No way can we score twice in the first half of that game under 2 minutes.

Re: Spags system will work but not yet(Warning lot of text).
Really, you can't blame Spags in this. He's been given the task of turning a mediocre-at-best defense and expected to turn them into the 2007 post season Giants defense. Sorry to upset the fairweather Saints fans, but it's not going to happen. Our D line is not going to work with the current line up.
You can teach technique until your eyes turn blue, but you can't teach heart. This group, as a whole, has no heart. Bunkley is the most aggresive of front. Will Smith forgot that he's not suspended. Jordan is a work in progress. I don't know where is Ellis is. The LB's can't get swallowed by the O line for this system to work. They have to be able to play more coverage and be able to protect the edges better. They haven't been able to with 5 man O lines stepping on their laces. |

Re: Spags system will work but not yet(Warning lot of text).
All I know is we played RGlll week 1 and Cam week 2. They have non-traditional O's. I think it would be hard for any new D to run well against that. All that being said this week is my last week defending Spags if the D doesn't show some signs of improvement. Like you know STOPPING PEOPLE ON 3 AND LONG....................Oh and I pray Drew plays his game. Looks like he is spread as thin as our CB's. You can't be coach, QB, motivational speaker, GM, water boy, and try to show everyone you deserved that contract. Just Dew you Drew.
