METAIRIE, La. – Motivational techniques aren’t anything new for the New Orleans Saints.
But normally they’re objects signifying how the team should play the following Sunay, such as with bats showing the team a physical game is in the offing.
Wednesday, though, the players were introduced to the latest motivation.
Mirrors placed in lockers throughout locker room, signifying that the players should look at themselves to improve, a theme that has taken over this week.
“It’s something that reminds you as the week goes,” right tackle Zach Strief said. “It’s easy to walk into a meeting and hear that statement and say, ‘Yeah, I need to look at myself.’ But then two days later you’re not really thinking about it. Now you walk in and you see it and you say, ‘Hey, I’ve got an extra 10 minutes. What can I do?’ ”
The small, cylindrical mirrors were head high, allowing the players to see their faces, letting them stare into the back of their heads and figure out how they can improve individually.
After an 0-2 start the idea, which Strief surmised was the idea of interim head coach Aaron Kromer, is to keep players from looking at others as the trouble spots.
“You can’t point,” Strief said. “You can’t try and look around and figure out what someone else is doing wrong. You have to look in the mirror and say, ‘What can I do?’ Really look at yourself and say, ‘What can I do to make this team better, to be a better player, to help us win games?’ ”

Kromer may be getting the hang of this head coaching thing...

This is why Kromer was chosen to "carry on". This is not an easy obstacle to overcome. There apparently are more bumps than we expected. But, I have full confidence we will be there when it really matters.

Good bout time. I like to see a page out of Paytons book. Its amazing how simple things like this can really make a difference.

Did Spud get one too? Hopefully he learned from JJ and can help these guys play defense.

We'll see what happens Sunday. I like this idea a lot. I think we kind of get lost in the fact that right now we're essentially dealing with a first time head coach... Despite the fact that he's been with the team for a while. Kromer's trying to figure this situation out just like everybody else. I say Kromer deserves our trust and it looks like he's trying and that's all we can ask for!

Well this is an improvement. If this was 1980 and they were 0-2, and the coaches gave them mirrors to "look within," they'd all be using them to snort blow at halftime.
