SAINTS SIGN HENDERSON TO FOUR-YEAR CONTRACT
August 6, 2004 New Orleans Saints The New Orleans Saints have signed rookie WR Devery Henderson to a four-year contract, it was announced today by Executive Vice-President/General Manager Mickey Loomis. Henderson, selected in the second round (50th overall), will participate in this evening's practice at 7:30 pm. A two-year starter at LSU at wide receiver after opening his career at running back, Henderson had 53 catches for 861 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2003. He was considered one of the fastest players available in the NFL Draft and was a sprinter on the Tigers' 2001 National Championship Indoor Track and Field team. Henderson, who attended Opelousas High School before going to LSU, had 89 receptions in his career with the Tigers for 1,411 yards and 19 touchdowns. He added 433 yards on 73 carries in his first two seasons at running back. All six of the club's draft choices are now under contract and at training camp. http://www.neworleanssaints.com./new...?articleid=838 [Edited on 7/8/2004 by GumboBC] |

Devery Henderson signed!!!
The thing I\'m wondering about Henderson, he missed a dozen practices or so in training camp, and Haslett doubts he can contribute in the early part of the season. Conversely, he was active in the mini camps and there were multiple reports of his efforts to elevate his skills in the spring and summer.
So I don\'t get it. How important is training camp? It USED to be the be all end all preparation for the season, but surely that\'s no longer the case. Off season programs have made the game a year round process. Further still, while he\'s missed much of camp, he\'s missed none of preseason, which should be plenty of time to get him up to speed. Football isn\'t rocket science, you know? It always boils down to wanting the ball or wanting a yard more than the guy across from you. Why shouldn\'t he be able to catch up and contribute? Don\'t get me wrong, I don\'t like Devery. It\'s not personal. I frickin\' hate LSU. So he can rot for all I care. However, when they showed footage of him in the Senior Bowl, I saw how talent of his caliber makes simple things like curl routes dangerous. Stallworth has the same potential, so putting two guys on the field that dangerous is cheating, and that\'s an intriguing prospect. It\'s ridiculous to me to think he can\'t be brought up to speed over the course of game planning four times for preseason games. |
It\'s not a question of whether or not the Saints will win the Super Bowl this year. It\'s a question of which Saint will be the MVP of the game.
What do you mean I\'m not supposed to snort the granola? |
