Colston contract a mistake?
NFL Network's Mike Lombardi suggested on Gameday Morning Sunday that the Saints may already be regretting Marques Colston's five-year, $36.3 million offseason contract extension.
"I think it's a contract that, if you're a Saint fan, you looking at it saying, 'Wait a minute. He hasn't really been a good player.' Right now, no team has a problem playing man-to-man on Marques Colston," Lombardi said. "No team has a problem going against the Saints' receivers. They don't explode, they don't run fast. ... Without free access, you've gotta be able to get open. And if you can't get open, all of a sudden that $40 million becomes a bad contract." He deserved that money. |
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.
All little common sense goes a long way. |

Re: Colston contract a mistake?
Same could be said of Brees' contract. Colston is just one WR. He isn't and never was that fast, but he caught the ball when thrown to him. Everyone except maybe PT, hasn't been playing up to their contract.

Well he is dealing with a foot injury. I'm thinking that may have something to do with cutting and pushing off?
Also, our #2 WR has been hurt, and our #4 WR was placed on IR. |

I don't think. He has been hurt which has caused a slow start. No to mention but we would have Henderson as our #1 if we did not sign him. I still see 1000+ yards and 8tds. The offensive line has hindered him also. When Drew has no time to find a open wr then he gets no balls.

What the hell have you been watching lombardi?
Yeah colston hasn't started well, neither has the rest of our team but to say that Colston isn't a good player and didnt deserve the contract is absurd A matter of Fact there is proof that you don't know what your talking about which goes to the tune of 6,400 receiving yards and 48 TD's, NOT COUNTING POSTSEASON! "Analyst" HA, grow up! |

There's no point in assessing anyone's worth this year when we don't have a coach, don't have an interim coach and the team is playing without intensity or desire from top to bottom. When Sean get's back, a bunch of players are going to find out that he's been watching and they'll be dealt with accordingly.

That's a very painful injury he's playing with. Plantar facinitis or however it is spelled has put players on IR. Lombardi is a Dick for even saying that Saints fans regret his contract

Re: Colston contract a mistake?
Colston has a contract that IMO is for what he's done in past years, I don't think he has much left considering the punishment he's taken for past years. He not worth the contract or the salary cap room, I love this guy but he's not fast, dropping balls as of this year and the beginning of last. He doesn't require double coverage ( safety over the top ) so why give him 36 million when you could have distributed that money on the defensive line.
In all Colston is a product of Sean's system. Jimmy Graham will have to be paid at some point in time ( near future ) what are we going to sacrifice to keep JG considering Drew's contract. |

His numbers are better than TO during the same time frame. What's there to regret when he's averaging over a 1,000 yds a season?

At this point the saints still need a deep threat receiver which they don't have, I know Mike Wallace is a free agent next year, do the Saint's have the money to sign a guy like that and Jimmy Graham because of MC's/ DB's contract and fix the defense, IMO no, and don't have enough draft picks unless Mickey Loomis has some magic moves that I don't see. |
