Re: Calvin Johnson Type Dreams ...
Funny, I was thinking something along that lines watching the game last night ... Colston, Henderson & Camarillo were putting on a show and I was glad the Saints were clicking in front of a national audience, but I remember thinking briefly, "What if Brees were throwing to Calvin?" ... I think I got dizzy or something because it was just too much to imagine,
Unfortunately, Brees/Johnson is a matchup we'll probably only ever see in a ProBowl, but all is not lost. Detroit compensates for it's lack of a 'Drew Brees' with 'MatFord' (that's my nickname for Matt Stafford) and New Orleans compensates for it's lack of a Calvin Johnson with (formerly) Robert Meachum and now Marques Colston ... I don't think either team is suffering that much for not having one or the other. Colston's numbers are actually better than Johnson's at the moment: -- Rec - Yds - Y/R - TD - Lng - R/G - Y/GJohnson 29 - 423 - 14.6 - 1 - 51 - 7.3 - 105.8 Colston 28 - 444 - 15.9 - 4 - 40 - 5.6 - 88.8 New Orleans has a 'Calvin Johnson' & it's Marques Colston, and having Devery Henderson, Jimmy Graham, Greg Camarillo, Sproles & PT catching the ball around him makes him just that much more effective. But yeah, Brees-to-Calvin ... I can see it now, 1,000yd/10 TD games become commonplace, Brees' record of consecutive games with a TD pass stretches into infinity (or at least to the end of his career), they rewrite the NFL rules book to try and contain those two (to no avail), Drew no longer has to strain to look over his O/L and pinpoint his receivers as Calvin's height/vertical leap enable him to put the ball just about anywhere in the vicinity for a catch ... it would be unreal, and unstoppable. I'm getting dizzy again, . |

Re: Calvin Johnson Type Dreams ...
The money was spent on drew Brees being able to sculpt together his decent receiving core. We have an absolute freak, jimmy graham. We are very lucky to have scored him. If the front office doesn't offer him a early fat contract extension, I'm going to be livid. Graham is our closest megatron. Keep in mind this is only the starts of his THIRD nfl season. If he stays healthy, we could see him evolve into something amazing, which he's on the fast track for with brees behind the snap
