Calvin Johnson Type Dreams ...
As a Saints Fan I have the rare opportunity to tune in watch a game and every few months or so watch a Top tier QB break every Passer Record Standing. It's exhilarating to witness a Man with Drew's Class accomplish so much after starting a possible shot NFL career in its face.
All in all I love this team so much , I really do. I think I have brought the same issue up , well not necessarily an issue but ... I think what I'm trying to say is this ... If this is what Drew Can accomplish with Walk on Targets , Middle of the Road Talent ( Other than Graham & Sproles ) What could this Machine do with a Calvin Johnson ? It is mind blowing to me ... I know acquiring someone that good isn't that easy but ... What if we could lock in that kind of Player at WR ? AJ Green Julio Jones ( Eww ) ect ... I think with that kind of weapon every record that hasn't fallen yet , would be in danger of falling in record timing. I think more than not Drew Is Making Our Players Look Better than what they are. ( Meachem had a nice game ) |

Well considering that all Matthew Stafford has to do is throw the ball within 10 yards of Calvin Johnson for a completion, regardless of double and triple coverage(See playoff game or last year's game vs cowboys), Drew + Calvin would be scary to watch.

Re: Calvin Johnson Type Dreams ...
An impossible dream.
You can not have a good o-line +$ 100M QB and a +$150m receiver. Salary cap prevents that and that's is the way it should be... If not, Calvin Johnson and Drew Brees would actually be playing on the same team.. It would be the Dallas Cowboys. Jerry can and would try and buy championships with out the cap. We have what we have and it works. You cant guarantee Johnson and Brees would mesh well together. Brees is a timing QB, not a throw it and let the Receiver do all the work QB.. Routes have to be defined and run correctly. Johnson does his own work. As a Saints Fan.. I am happy with the way our clock works... "If it aint broke.... dont fix it". |

You're taking what we have for granted...
We have special receivers in Colston and Graham... They're just different from all others... And there's only one Megatron - now I ask you would you rather be Detroit and have him and Stafford or New Orleans and have Colston, Graham, Sproiles, Thomas, Henderson, Moore... |

Re: Calvin Johnson Type Dreams ...
Teams that have the one big go-to receiver guy like a Megatron, Julio, Larry Fitzgerald type dude, the BIG #1 guy, those teams get "figured out" pretty easily in the playoffs. Heck, even a miserable Gregg Williams D could shut down Calvin Johnson in the playoffs, more or less. I would rather have the "too many weapons" approach and have all this crazy stuff with Sproles lining up in different places, Graham constantly coming in and out of the game, having a couple of really good guys instead of a real "#1" receiver, and then a bunch of faceless guys like Camarillo and Jed Collins that other teams can't possibly game plan for. That's darn near unstoppable.

Re: Calvin Johnson Type Dreams ...
Yes a Calvin Johnson type would be good but with that type of $$$$ we can solidify the o-line get another Meacham type receiver etc and we can do this all because of the way Brees distribute the ball to the receivers, Devery can and still get deep but with another speedster along with Colston and Moore we can easily be back to 09 status.
