Re: Sean Paytons Contract voided by NFL
The ONE question that isn't being asked is "Who put an escape clause in the extension?" I don't think the Saints front office. Remember when he was hired he wanted to "commute" between New Orleans and Dallas? His family moves back "home" and now his contract is null and void. There is something wrong with this picture. If he signs an extension with the Saints I'll happily eat that crow but......

But the clause was put in by SP and Benson signed off on it so its not like he didn't know or feel comfortable that he was going to retain both Loomis and SP. |

Re: Sean Paytons Contract voided by NFL
The more and more I think about this the more it seems like a plot by Goodell to get seperate SP, Loomis and Brees in N.O.
1. He rejected the extension during the 2011 season after it was signed and thought to be ok'd. SP was coaching a SB contender…didn’t have the time to be distracted by contract talks…much like Brees. Which actually makes me think thats why Brees decided to table his talks as well and why it took so long to get done. When Goodell dropped the Bounty bomb the FO was sent scrambling having to make a contingency plan for coaching instead of taking care of these contracts like they planned on doing. Its clear Loomis, SP, and Brees want their Legacies tied together much like the Pats through the dynasty years with Belichiek, Brady, and Pioli. 2. He dropped the Bounty BS during the offseason suspending Payton for a year and Loomis for 8 games. Both can’t have contact with the team or with each other and have to ask permission to even go to games. Which hinders them from even getting an extension done.... 3. Then he leaks the news like its something that just happend a week ago and gets everyone into a uproar....saying its up to the Saints and that he's waiting on them to submit another "acceptable" extension contract knowing full well they can't F***in talk to each other until the offseason. Its so transparent if you look at the timelines of this whole situation... |

Re: Sean Paytons Contract voided by NFL
Just curious how do people think there is some type of conspiracy?
Really... do you folks really think that is the case? |

Re: Sean Paytons Contract voided by NFL
We didn't get the contract offered and signed in time.
The contract was never an issue. The team probably drafted it and it was with Sean Payton's attorney until he met with Saints management for signature and approval. The CBA was signed on August 4, 2011. This contract was signed on September 5, 2011. The CBA gave gODhELL absolute authority over every aspect of Coaching contracts. Had we gotten this done a month earlier (ie. Aug. 4, 2011) this wouldn't be an issue as it would pre-date the current CBA. Who knew gODhELL would negotiate himself as god in the CBA? |

Re: Sean Paytons Contract voided by NFL
SP stating that he "plans" to coach the Saints isn't the same as stating "I WILL" It doesn't matter anyway because we all know the world ends next month. The Falcons on their way to a 16 - 0 season and poof!

Because techincally - Mickey Loomis has been suspended, therefore Sean Payton has an "out" in his contract so he could leave and go to ANY team that paid him right now. Why would the league get involved and make public this fact when they could have left it alone and SP could have slipped off to Jerry Jones world without anyone knowing until it was done? The NFL DOES NOT want ridiculous clauses like this in contracts because it would start a firestorm of player B.S. - like (for example) "player X's contract is void if player Y and player Z are traded or let go as free agents by the Team." Can you imagine the idiocy that could ensue? In this case, I blame the Saints for allowing this to happen to themselves. Then again, the person approving the contract (Mickey Loomis) is the party mentioned in Sean Payton's contract. The entire situation is blown out of proportion by the surrounding case on Bountygate that Sean Payton was suspended for. Again, sloppy contract work and sloppy front office crap by the Saints. The NFL is merely reviewing coaches contracts and found a "no-no" therein. But doesn't matter if the NFL voids the thing, they're probably doing us a favor forcing hand on Coach Payton now. Facts are, with the current contract, Sean Payton has an "out" because Mickey Loomis HAS BEEN suspended and can leave without notice at any time in its present wording. |
