If Payton wanted an out, his contract was up. There was no need to scheme any further. |

I hope Payton comes back. It will be hard to take in if he leaves and goes to Dallas next year.

Re: Joe Vitt For HC ? ( Life without Payton )
SP isn't leaving. I don't buy that for one second. He's tied to Brees for one thing. You don't think that Brees would have signed here again if SP was gonna leave do ya? And because Brees did sign here again, it was because of SP and SP ain't gonna leave Drew out in the Breeze (No pun intended).
Then there's the city. New Orleans and the state of Louisiana Love SP and he definitely knows that. He also knows that he can't win in Dallas with Romo. Yeah, his wife and kids are in TX, so what, they're divorced and he won't see his kids any more than he would by remaining the HC of the Saints. I don't know about y'all, but I sure as heck wouldn't want to live very close to my ex. Will SP hold out for more money? You bet, anyone would, but with the divorce and the way this city and these fans love SP, he knows he won't find that anywhere else, not to mention that if he wants his name to go down as one of the best head coaches in the history of the league with other names like Parcells, Shula, Bellichek, and the like, his best shot is to stay with the Saints, because he built this team and it's still in it's prime to win him more Super Bowls, so I just don't believe he'll leave. First off, if Payton leaves, you can bet he's taking Vitt with him.
Second, Payton's not leaving. The End. |

Re: Joe Vitt For HC ? ( Life without Payton )
I love the guy and am sorry for what is happening to his family, but I think the "divorce" thing as a reason for him to go to Dallas, is kind of getting over-played by the media. Hasn't anybody in the media seen the pictures of him grinding on the dancefloor with those young co-eds, or drinking at Lucy's? He was at Jazz Fest in May with TWO women, one on each arm. He flew with his son to the Hall of Fame game. To OHIO, not Texas. When you are rich, money can solve a lot of logistical problems of being close to your family or not close to your family. I am sure he is going through a lot of growth and change as a result of the divorce, but I don't think it makes a lot of impact on the geography or the decision on where to work...I just don't see it. Remember, this was the same guy who got reprimanded by the Giants for spending too much time at the facility, sleeping in the film room, etc. At this level, their families are used to it.

I certainly think Payton wants to be here, but as another poster pointed out everyone has their price.
But what happens if Vitt takes a team in disarray and gets us deep into the playoffs? Will Benson be as likely to open his pocketbook to make Payton the richest coach in the league? I'm thinking not. |
