Gruden. That is all.

my vote would be for Harry Connick Jr.!

the admiration in his eyes for Drew brought tears to my own!

Vitt knows football inside and out but Payton is aware of things outside those parameters. That's what you need to have success in the NFL. Brees was not a sure thing. He scrubbed a draft pick for PT. He gambled on Shockey. These are only a few of the genius / beserk decesions Payton made. Hindsight we can look back and say those were easy choices but that's the beauty of it. They were not easy choices. He just made it look easy.

I rewatched our trouncing of the Eagles last night to get the T.V. perspective of the game.

Chuckie says that Payton WILL NOT leave the Saints because of Loyalty. Period. I'd love to believe that.

John Gruden loves the Saints. If not Payton, then Gruden!

Alaska, I would love to believe that SP would stay in New Orleans out of Loyalty. Unfortuntely, Loyalty isn't a word that is used much in professional sports. It's funny that fans get chastized for being disloyal for not supporting totally mismanaged programs. Yet, owners, GM's, coaches and players mostly show loyalty to their bank accounts.

SP will be back in black & gold next season, but even if he weren't, I would not even give Vitt a serious consideration for the job.

The fact that he is the LB coach and that he hasn't been able to coach up a guy to take over for Shanle says enough in my opinion!

He is not staying due to any loyalty.. if anyone owes loyalty to anyone it is the Saints to Sean Payton. Both for where he has taken this team and what he is doing this season.

He will stay because HE WANTS TO. No man builds this and then just walks away from it when it is red hot.

I say again, why was an "escape" clause written into the contract? He is the head coach and has no NFLPA behind him to appeal his suspension. I contend he knew the suspension was going to happen and wanted a way out. When he was hired he was going to commute between here and Dallas. There is no such thing as loyalty. Watch what happens in Philly. If he goes to Dallas he'll get eaten up and spit out like every coach Jerry Jones has destroyed.

I don't think the clause was less of an escape clause and more of a guarantee to have Loomis around because Loomis and Payton work very well together; Loomis is an accountant dealing with the financial aspects of football, and leaves Sean Payton alone to make football decisions.

It could very well be that Payton knew about the suspensions, and because he works well with Loomis, decided to protect Loomis by adding that clause in the contract, lest Benson decided to make Loomis an even bigger scapegoat and fire Loomis as some sort of sacrifice to the NFL to reduce the team's liability.

If Payton wanted an out, his contract was up. There was no need to scheme any further.
