Finishing up a job on the westbank, I jumped in my car and headed for the homestead. With my radio permanently tuned to 1280 since they went on the air(good riddance Buddy) and as I accelerated up the on-ramp to get on the expressway, I hear Jerry V. talking about the saints new aquisition of CB Deion Sanders and a 5 year contract. Now I dont necessarily know how to react to this news, but nonetheless I am reacting indeed, and I literally pull off to the shoulder so i can pay close attention. After what seemed like a 15 minute commercial break, Jerry comes back on and refutes the rumor of the Deion signing as an expiriment to demonstrate the importance of responsible journalism, and the necessity as a reporter to make sure you have all the facts before saying anything as well as to show how fast a rumor can grow legs and morph into a living, breathing entity. He then appologizes for any confusion he caused and tells listeners not to freak out and call everyone they know or pull onto the shoulder of a busy highway.
So i make a couple more calls to my friends and leave another voice message telling them it was a prankand not to worry about it, and merge back into traffic. Half a mile down the road is a white pickup with a Saints bumper sticker on the tailgate merging back into raffic from the shoulder and all i can do is smile as i pass him..... Jerry V. is a punk |
