this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Tom Benson, Mickey loomis, and Joe Vitt must sit Drew Brees down. If you are eliminated there is no reason to risk injury or your surgically repaired arm on meaningless throws. It is time to seriously consider shutting him down....

Re: The conversation that must be had
Sends the wrong message to the rest of the team especially the rookies. Thats just saying hey we care more about the $100mil man than the rest of the team that still wants to try to end this season with a winning record. IMO it also sends the wrong message to the Defense who, regardless of what people think of them, has worked their a** to improve under Spagnolo. Yeah Drew just had 2 horrible games in his career....without the help of everyone else we wont get to the playoffs but it doesn't mean you stop trying to win ball games. Because this league is unpredictable. Football Gods might smile on the Saints and give them new life. But none of that works if you stop trying to win you're games too....and regardless of his play right now....without Brees you kill your chances of doing that.

Re: The conversation that must be had
In Drew's own words as told to him by Doug Flutie "Never let your backup see the field" ask Alex Smith.
You don't "sit him down" you SIT HIM DOWN!!! again. Ask Alex Smith. I believe since we are out of it and we have no coach it's time to see who wants to be here next year. Ironic that when the D turns a corner so does Drew. All those "bad wins" that were talked about in years past look pretty good now don't they? Atlanta will be One and Done in the playoffs. Again! |

Re: The conversation that must be had
Agreed, but not quite time yet. When we are out of the picture, without a doubt, then let Chase see some time (like Pre-season) and save Drew for next year. We had just too big of a hole to climb out of.

Re: The conversation that must be had
Sitting Drew Brees down will send the wrong message and I'd be concerned about him never coming back. He's playing like garbage and I want to see him out of this slump. I don't want him finishing this season on a bad note.
So no this conversation doesn't need to be had... it's silly |

Re: The conversation that must be had
Glad it's not my decision to make ... do you throw up a white flag on the season? The objective in the NFL is to win, and you do that by putting your best players on the field.
I see some of the logic in allowing Daniels to take some snaps for a quarter or two, but you still gotta' win games. Who's giving you the best chance to win? If the argument's for Daniels, then by all means, put him in ... but if you bought a ticket to a Saints game, are you gonna' want to watch Chase under center or you gonna' want to see Drew under center? |

Re: The conversation that must be had
I say we do our best to knock down the Giants playoff position and play spoiler to keep Dallas and Tampa out of the playoffs. Against Carolina in the last week - unless there is still a playoff possibility - I would not be against starting Daniel because we need to get him some real game time (not a preseason game) and see if he can be a reliable backup.

Re: The conversation that must be had
Pride, respect, not to mention leaders take the field with those they lead. 9 & 7 or 8 & 8 is a win for this season.

Re: The conversation that must be had
You are correct Danno but as you know this is difficult to witness. It's good to have this forum available for venting
