Cowboys trade OT Collins to Carolina
NFL.com wire reports IRVING, Texas (Aug. 24, 2004) -- The Dallas Cowboys traded offensive tackle Javiar Collins to Carolina for a conditional 2005 draft choice. Dallas signed Collins as a free-agent defensive tackle from Northwestern in 2001. He was moved to the offensive line midway through his rookie season. In three seasons with the Cowboys, Collins played in 11 games -- nine at right tackle in 2002, including the game in which Emmitt Smith became the NFL's career rushing leader. He played in only two games last season, primarily on special teams. The Panthers have been searching for a right tackle ever since projected Adam Meadows retired only months after signing a five-year contract. That left the Panthers with Matt Willig and Melvin Tuten at the position. Willig has been bothered by a knee injury, but is expected to return to practice next week link Just shows ya, the Panthers are not comfortable with the guys they have on the offensive line. |
