Re: Anonymous saint player - "No one likes spags or he is Defense"
Usually where there is smoke there's fire, stats don't lie. I've been saying this all year he's not a good defensive coordinator, he had 1 team tat excelled and that was the Giants, but they were loaded with talent from top to bottom.
Do I agree with a someone coming-out and not putting their name on it "NO", but nevertheless it could be true. |

Re: Anonymous saint player - "No one likes spags or he is Defense"
I'm sure it's just venting from one of the Defensive players who knows he will not be in a Saint uniform next year. This has no merit.

Re: Anonymous saint player - "No one likes spags or he is Defense"
I just want to know why some feel like there is no accountability for the players. Spags, hell all the coaches have done their job and fallen on the sword for all the mistakes this season. Its not like their running from it. But when you have players (who likely suck anyway) that want to come out of the wood work when they don't get their way...its fire the coach.
Whether they feel that way as a whole or not I say screw that. Suck it up and get better next year when all the dead weight is cut and you actually have a coach and a full offseason with no drama. Its funny how the YOUNG talent on this team that was an afterthought in GW system seems to be flourishing under Spags. Especially guys on the line like Jordan, Tom Johnson, Gallete (before he got hurt and played well when he came back).... The guy that is so called "speaking for everyone in the lockeroom" is guarenteed to be one of those guys that got exposed for how bad they really are. It was easy to get away with not having talent when GW was here because all he did was blitz....any Defensive player is gonna want to keep the system where that had to THINK the least. Spags system is based of fundamentals, high IQ, and talent....and it is clear that most of this team lacks one or two of the most important qualities in this scheme. And does anyone think that maybe just maybe...SP, Benson, & Loomis are tired of taking the easy way out when it comes to the defense. Maybe they want Spags there to TEACH their players. U know so we can have a decent to good defense for more than one year. Because thats all you had with GW and thats all he ever was anywhere else...a one hit wonder that declined massively after one season. Then all of a sudden you see that players were riding off emotion not reality and never saw it because the offense scored enought to cover the holes. GW didn't TEACH those guys anything but to run as fast as you can to hit the QB and strip the ball nothing else. He brainwashed them....yes we gave up an historically large amount of yards this season but these, IMO, are the same guys that blatantly lost us 2 playoff games when we needed them the most. Its just less obvious now because the offense/ and our HC wasn't there put up 40 a game and hide just how bad they were. Spags may not have gotten that one hit wonder result but you can't deny you didn't see the steady improvement. Isn't that the goal....to build a team on BOTH sides of the ball to be more balanced....its obvious that Loomis & SP wanted to take that route since they knew that they & Brees were going to be staying for a long time. We cannot rely on this offense to carry us for the next 5-7 yrs there is too much turnover. Spags should get at the very least another year IMO. |

Re: Anonymous saint player - "No one likes spags or he is Defense"
Precisely:
Fundamentals - Judging from how we tackle, the players have forgotten those with the exception of only a few. High IQ - Ive only seen a few that could possibly fall into this area. Talent - See reply for High IQ. I am of the opinion that ANY coach coming to a defense that doesn't have tackling fundamentals, IQ enough to understand and execute a plan, and enough talent to stop basic offenses will fall on his face. We do not have a coaching problem on defense we have a player problem.... Football is a team sport, TEAM. More so than any other sport, just one exploitable player can make a defense look bad. From the looks of things and most people being able to identify 40% of our links being weak Spags didn't have a chance this season. Argue Spags in NY all you like, blame coaching all you like... The Dome Patrol didn't have an epic defensive coordinator. Actually the epic Dome Patrol wasn't a full defense... It was 4 very talented players.. Imagine Jackson, Mills, Johnson, and Swilling with Spags as a coach. When the Dome Patrol is mentioned or talked about in the news who the D-coordinator is never mentioned. Most dont even know who it was. When was the last time we saw tackling like this? It wasn't the coach. |
