I got a message from the football gods.
Driving along the highway today I saw something in the mirror. It had nothing to do with the reflection in the mirror. Rather it was that little "warning" written on the bottom of the outside mirror.
You know the one? The one that says: Warning, objects are not as close as they appear. Most normal folks wouldn't pay much attention to that little warning, But, to me, it was a message from the football gods. And, no, I wasn't drunk !! That little warning on the mirror was screaming out at me. It was saying " Warning objects are not as close as they appear." I tried to ignore it, but I kept looking back in that mirror and kept seeing that "warning." What it was telling me was : DON'T get your hopes up on the Saints this year. It was saying: "Warning, Saints are not as close as they appear." Could the mirror be right? I've had that car since 2001, which just happens to be the year after the Saints 1st playoff victory. In 2001 the Saints started out like gang-busters and only needed ONE game to make the playoffs. But they collapased in December and missed the playoffs. The mirror was right. The "objects were not as close as they appeared." But, I couldn't accept that the mirror could predict the future. This couldn't me a "magic mirror." So, 2002 rolled around and I still saw the same "warning" on the mirror. And the Saints once again started the season off strong. Going 6-2 in their first eight games. I laughed at the mirror and even made fun of it. There was NO way we would miss the playoffs this year. Wrong !!! That mirror tried to tell me, but I wouldn't listen. Well, as I was riding down the highway today, looking at that little warning in the mirror, I decided it was high time I did something about that mirror. I went to the closest place I could find a Saints bumper sticker and bought one. I proceeded to cut the word "Saints" off of the bumber sticker ever so carefully. I then pasted the name "Saints" over the portion of the mirror that said " Warning objects are not" Now it reads " Saints as close as they appear." If I would have only done that years ago.
