Maybe...
Contract wise he has 4 more years left. Aaron Rodgers sat behind Favre for 3 or 4 years and its done him nothing but good.

At that time Favre's play was showing signs of age and decline. Brees' play isn't.

Rodgers sat for 3 years, but was ready much earlier than that.

One year behind Brees should do it. So I can't see drafting his back-up for 3 or 4 more years.

College QB's are now almost NFL redy right out of the gate. Most take 2 years max.

Turrible idea.

Brees reconstructed arm has shown signs of "tenderness" from time to time.

Drafting in the first round still does not, and will never, guarantee success. For every RGIII, Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson, there is a JaMarcus Russell, Matt Leinart and Rex Grossman.
Russell Wilson was not a 1st round pick. He was drafted in the 3rd.

Drew's motto is never let your back up see the field.....I do believe that he would not like the idea. He just signed a major five year deal. Give it a couple of years and keep an eye out for the right player.

That mentoring thing is overated. Look what happened in Indy. They had one of the best for a long time. Sometimes nobody can fill shoes that big.

Re: Time nearing for Saints to draft a quarterback

no, but if you have to get one get, colt mccoy. Hes cheap, and practically mirrored Brees performance in college. Under Brees for 4 years he might be the 2nd comming.
The Browns are well known for destroying QB talent.
