The 'defense' blows it again
I am willing to bet that is more of the scheme than the players. Of course, on defense everything cannot be stopped but corrections should be made throughout the year. I have watched time and time again as simple screens and short passes are not defended due to the fact that people are out of position. Either Haz or Venturi is to blame for the way the defense is getting exploited. Yeah it was good to get run stuffing tackles but if they are not going to stuff the run we should have stayed with the old scheme. I think that they are not using the personnel to their strengths :casstet: :casstet: The offense has proven time and time again that they can move the ball at will so the defense should get tired of suffering the ridicule that they are suffering and go back to simplistic defenses that cover the basic areas on the field instead of this zone flooding crap that they like to do to much.

The 'defense' blows it again
We should spend both of our first ,and our second and our third round picks on some D. Geesh, where to start. DB\'s can\'t guard tall receivers, Linebackers can\'t stop the run, and Defensive line.

The 'defense' blows it again
I think the defense look very poor across the board today. Sure, there were occasions where they stuffed the run or defensed a pass, but by and large. They stunk up the place.
Culpepper pretty much has his way with the SAINTS all day long. We had everything form blown pass coverage to absolutely no pass coverage at times. What was up with Dale Carter on the Vikes\' last touchdown? It appeared that he just decided that that play was a good time to take a break and stand around instead of making any attempt whatsoever to cover anyone. Did he honestly think that he was out there for no reason at all. Isn\'t it his job to at least try to cover someone, if not the other team\'s top threat -- Moss??? And how the hell did Culpepper drop the ball TWICE on the 2-point conversion and still stroll into the endzone almost untouched, up the middle I might add??? What the hell went so terribly wrong??? Why didn\'t we at least call a timeout to get everyone in place for such a crutial play? Not that all of the blame goes to the D. I saw some pretty disturbing things happen on offense as well. Brooks still pays little attention to defenders that are bent on sacking him (he doesn\'t even seem to look to see who\'s coming), he still seems to be willing to do just about anything he can so as not to have to run the ball himself and he still insists on dropping back 6, 8,10 steps or more. He did make some nice throws at times, but he just did not come through when we needed him most, i.e. 3 field goals instead of TDs with at least one coming after starting 1st and goal. I must say that I liked what I saw out of Jake Reed today. Stallworth and Horn also showed talent today and Duece did as much as possible to carry the SAINTS to victory. But the D and too many mistakes on offense made that impossible. I am not going to try to analyze what the coaching staff was thinking at times... Anyway, I could go on, but it is just too unsettling. [Edited on 16/12/2002 by daviddrake2] |

The 'defense' blows it again
Sorry for being so negative in my last post, but today\'s loss was just very frustrating. I don\'t know if it\'s just me, but I think that the SAINTS could have and should have easily wan that game.
I only hope that the team gets its act together before it\'s too late. Go SAINTS!!!!! David in Houston |

The 'defense' blows it again
We better find a defense or our trip to the playoffs will be a short one. That is considering we make the playoffs. I do believe we will still make it but, how can a defense look so bad? :casstet:

Playoffs??? Trust me...there is no sense making plans for the playoffs. Oh sure we\'ll get there. Hell we may even win a game. The thing we need to be doing is looking over the draftees for next year, firing the D coaches, and giving Brooks the boot. I\'m ticked.......
