DC coaching search: candidates/rumors
The threads will start coming. We all the saints just fired spags and are moving to a 3-4 which I've been screaming we should do for years. But do y'all think Rob Ryan is a possible candidate? Or do unthink we will search for college DC's that want to transition into the NFL? Let the debate begin and here's a a already positive off season!!!!

Re: I guess I'll start....
Ryan has been hired by the Rams. So he is off the table.
|
Re: I guess I'll start....
I don't know any good coaches out there right now but I guess SP and Lommis have a surprise for everyone. May he's looking at some college coach I don't know.

Romeo Crennel?
Not sure how this is going to go. This is like a bombshell nobody saw coming. |
Re: I guess I'll start....
There's chatter about Romeo Crennel
|
Re: I guess I'll start....
My mind is so blown by tonight's news that I can't even start to speculate about what's to come because I certainly didn't see this coming lol.

Romeo didn't think about him maybe a fit.

Re: I guess I'll start....
3-4 . . .

Re: I guess I'll start....
How about Kirby Smart from Alabama?
I know nothing about him or how the defense actually played or if he would fit what the Saints are looking to do going forward, but my understanding is that Alabama has had the best collegiate defense for two years running. |
Re: I guess I'll start....
Besides Crennel, Lovie Smith is available, so is Mike Singletary. A lot of candidates to choose from.
|
Re: I guess I'll start....
If we follow our own history, we seem to go for the guy who kicked us in the nuts the previous season. That means Crennel. I've always liked him as a DC. I hear Lovies holding out for HC and isn't he a 4-3 guy? Not certain about Crennel or Singletary though.
|
Re: I guess I'll start....
Lovie is a 4-3 guy all the way. Call me crazy but I like Singletary, but the players might like Crennel better...
|
Re: I guess I'll start....
All this talk about who we'll hire. I can dig it.
Truth is, a worn out Vegetarian Zombie would be an improvement... |
Re: I guess I'll start....
Maybe we're looking at someone on the Ravens or 49ers 3-4 defensive staffs, want to wait til Super Bowl is over to interview.
BTW Sean Payton has done more coaching in his 2-3 days this offseason than Mike D'Antoni has done all season! |
Re: I guess I'll start....
first thing first a true 34 NT or this is domed to fail. we do not have one on the roster.
Last year was proof we could not put 2 DT on the field. We have a long way to go. I do not see a many LB making the switch either. we are loaded with 43 lb 5 year plan anyone? you know i have been editing this piece and it dawned on me were the cap space will be coming from. Maybe Micky is gutting the defense all together |
Re: I guess I'll start....
I heard Greg Williams is looking for a job...

As far as every-down pass rusher, Tez Wilson seems like the perfect candidate for that job. This could be his true calling. I guess we'll have to wait to find out, but Payton coming in and making changes like this gets me all giddy for next season. Can't wait! |
Romeo Crennel!!!
The best name left among 3-4 coaches who aren't getting a head coaching gig.......
|
Re: Romeo Crennel!!!
i am not crazy about Romeo. Living here in Boston we all know the defense belongs Bill. DC here are head position coaches that report to Bill and go back and repeat his orders. Parrots nothing more than Parrots
much like Sean runs the offense here. Romeo has done absolutely nothing since leaving the pats. |
Re: Romeo Crennel!!!
What about Lovie? Did they run 3-4 or 4-3?
|
Re: Romeo Crennel!!!
Lovie runs a 4-3
|
Re: Romeo Crennel!!!
Lovie already said he not coming back unless he's a head caoch
|
Re: I guess I'll start....
I just want a fired up defense. One that plays inspired. One that can't wait to get back on the field. What a nice change that would be.
|
Re: I guess I'll start....
Saints should take a look at Ed Donatell. He's the 49ers secondary coach now but has experience as defensive coordinator with Packers and Falcons. It would take away one of the defensive coaches from the 49ers and he's been coaching thier secondary which the Saints just fired that coach, how could that not help the Saints out. They say he's sort after in Philly but a call couldn't hurt on Monday

Re: I guess I'll start....
Romeo was great as DC for the Chiefs, defense is the only reason we won 2 games this season. He was both DC and HC until near the end of the season he stopped as DC and went strictly HC.

Re: I guess I'll start....
how many different threads on this are we going to have?

In Coach Payton I trust.

Re: I guess I'll start....
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Saints will consider adding Eric Mangini and Romeo Crennel to their 2013 defensive staff.
Schefter suggests Crennel and Mangini "could go together" to New Orleans, with one serving as defensive coordinator. Crennel and Mangini have familiar backgrounds as Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick disciples, respectively. They were both on staff when Belichick's Patriots won three Super Bowls. I wouldn't be suprised if this was actually as suggestion made by SP close friend and mentor Parcels. |
Re: I guess I'll start.... DC coaching search
At least they have started to look for a replacement(s) but its time to replace Vitt and Johnson too
|
Re: I guess I'll start.... DC coaching search
For Mangini, it's certainly not a bad idea to get his foot back in the door in a low pressure situation. He wasn't going to become a HC again anytime soon... getting his feet back in the pool and helping the Saints become a better unit could certainly lead to a DC gig in the near future. Win win for both parties.
I could definitely dig this. |
