Re: Gil Brant's pre-combine draft rankings
Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma ?
after that trade down as for my favs end up with these two and i would be cool with the draft 40) Desmond Trufant, CB, Washington 41) Kawann Short, DT, Purdue More moving up boards due to skill set than hype 32) Johnthan Banks, DB, Mississippi State drops due to what? not playing in the senior bowl? i do not get it 44) Alex Okafor, DE, Texas Stills stumps me when a player is solid in all aspects of the game actually hurts his stock ok as i look at the rest i scratch my head. this list is top loaded with hype and high ceiling players. |

Re: Gil Brant's pre-combine draft rankings
When we lost our last game I started studying the draft. I do believe that DT is where it all starts on defense(in a 3-4) however, it all starts with QB on offense. Having said that protecting Drew is the number one priority in my opinion. If we go LT in the draft then we could sign the player to a five or even six year rookie contract at a reasonable rate.
I have been pushing for DT or OLB'er but I have come to the conclusion that the best investment is to go LT in the first round. |

Re: Gil Brant's pre-combine draft rankings
Unfortunately, it's not a very strong year for LT's ... and we're gonna need one. Then again, do you really want a rookie watching over Drew's $100 million backside?
I'm more comfortable with a rookie DT, but it's frankly not a strong year there either ... and the bust potential always seems higher. I'm a "best player available" guy when it comes to the draft, but it would sure be nice if that BPA is a stud in the trenches! |

Re: Gil Brant's pre-combine draft rankings
I'm admittedly not the deepest draft-follower either, but I try to keep up.
DT is certainly better than LT this year, but there are precious few safe bets at either position. Joeckel is a LT lock, but the dropoff is huge after him and the pool isn't very deep. DT is much deeper without a doubt - a lot of similar talent across the board - so if you consider it that way, I guess it is a pretty good year there. Just not a lot of star quality, I guess. |

Dt;s, OLB's and safetys are strong in this years draft I read somewhere. If I remember right DT,s were the deepest.

Re: Gil Brant's pre-combine draft rankings
I think that's what I was stumbling toward, yes ...
I'm also a little concerned that there aren't so many big, space-eating 3-4 NT's as we might like to see. There's some very good (unfortunately smallish) DL talent out there, just not sure how much good it does us. |

Re: Gil Brant's pre-combine draft rankings
As much as it hurts because I feel like we could do so much better I believe if anyone signs jake long bushrod will be signed long term. The saint will draft a ot, but it won't be early....... When we find a trading partner and trade out I think we end up with Datone Jones DE ucla...... Unless someone great falls I think we will be trading out of 15
