The Saints are NOT extending any of these contracts, because none of these guys (except for maybe Evans) is a franchise type player. Thus we're not saving money long term. Only short term. That's my point. There are people who seem to have the impression that we're off the hook, but as of now, we're just getting by.

What I was trying to say was that there's very little reason to be concerned about these restructures and their effect in the long term, because they were given to players who more than likely will be with the team for the duration of their contracts and playing at high levels, which justifies their higher base salaries towards the end of their contract. If restructures were given to players who weren't as likely to be playing out their contracts; there'd be a much bigger risk for the Saints to be on the hook for "dead money" on those players' contracts.

My point was that giving these guys the restructures was justified under the current circumstances; restructures which turn base salary into guaranteed bonuses are also something can't just do "willy nilly" with just anyone.
