Are we looking at anyone???
We never really score in free agency, it's always really frustrating to monitor. But are we even looking at anyone? Worst defense in history, same personnel and 3 different coordinators. Are we just going to draft our way out of this with our watered down draft picks? Drew Bree's high contract is going to cripple the team until he retires. I love the guy too...but let's be honest here. We also need to find a LT. One of the most important positions on offense.

Re: Are we looking at anyone???
Shockley was also a trade. Everyone else on that list , that sucked, didn't draw interest from anyone else and were signed way after free agency began. Give me someone on day 1 of free agency.

Re: Are we looking at anyone???
For what it's worth at this time right now I'm not happy with what we lost and what we've gained. Hopefully all that changes

Re: Are we looking at anyone???
Maybe it also means we get more compensatory picks.

Re: Are we looking at anyone???
Without Brees we wouldn't have a chance of winning so they had to pay the man... He brought a sb to new Orleans ... had to pay the man ! ... Sure it kinda hurts us in the FA signings but Gotta have faith that Loomis n Payton.... WE will be a strong contender this year no doubt we have r coach back...
|
Re: Are we looking at anyone???
Wow. 2 NFC Championship games, Super Bowl ring, several seasons with double digit wins & multiple playoff appearances.
If only we could get Ditka back, but as GM this time. This Loomis/Payton/Brees thing just isn't working out. :P |

Re: Are we looking at anyone???
let the market price on CB set itself first is what is going on. no CB have really signed yet so agents are holding the players off till other top CB start signing.
player would need to tell his agent make it happen this is the team i want to play for |

We haven't had a lot of quantity over the years in free agency, but we've hit some home runs. There's no money for a home run this year. I'm hoping we can land a veteran who'll surprise us like Sharper did. We got lucky that other teams thought he had nothing left. It doesn't have to be a safety, but just someone who'll give us a boost at a good price. |

Re: Are we looking at anyone???
Part of winning the battle of free agency is stocking up on roll players and mid-level talent. There isn't a team in the NFL that is just slam full of superstars. Hell, the last time a team tried that approach through free agency the Eagles got Andy Reid fired. To ***** about the wins and loses at the mid-level free agency signings is to show an ignorance of how the NFL works. We have a great GM/HC combination. Let them do their job. They have proven to be pretty damn good at it so far.

Many of the players I listed were signed to be roll players. They were not signed to be the next Drew Brees. Thats our approach to free agency and its a good one. Sign roll players and mid-tier players to fill holes in order to draft BPA. If the occasion arises to sign a high dollar stud like Brees then take it. |

We were looking hard at Shanle apparently.

Also though, you listed some players who were rookie free agents, which is a different animal. It's easy to sign RFA's, and you can sign a ton without any real risk. Most of them get cut within weeks. And some of the players on that list just weren't, or aren't any good. Tom Johnson is just another preseason warrior. Bunkley, to this point, has not validated his contract. De la peunta was somebody we signed off the shelf during a training camp. McCray had his moments, but was mostly ineffective, and he was given too much money to be a role player. He was expected to be a starter who could come in and post at least 9 or 10 sacks. And guys like Prioleau and Reis were just special teamers. Decent special teamers, and I'm not downplaying their importance, but those aren't the type of players I think of as being a "score". This doesn't mean the Saints have done a bad job, though they've made some mistakes in free agency. I just think that list was a bit exaggerated. |
Re: Are we looking at anyone???
Chris Reis, "laughable"?
Come on man... you want us to give the Lombardi back or something? Ever heard of AMBUSH, "blue ball, blue ball" Hank Baskett -- is any of this ringing any bells with you? I mean I know he's not a Hall of Fame superstar but really, SMH at that one. Plus ragging on Sharper, only one year -- but take away those pick 6's of his and see what you got left that "only one year." Hint: it ain't 13-3 and it ain't home field. Sheez. Tough crowd. |

Teams sign people left and right and we the guys that no one wants, two weeks after. we get depth at best who end up starting. i bet 1/2 of our Def wouldnt start on a top 10 defensive team. the free agent starters/ weekly contributors are signed in the first few days of FA....not at the end. |
