Terron Armstead

Hey guys what do y'all think about Armstead he had the best 40 of any lineman at the combine. They said he had a hell of a week leading up to the senior bowl. Now he's projected to be a late second round pick should we trade back in the first round and get a second round pick. Now one of the reasons I'm talking about this guy one we need a tackle and second we run a lot of screen plays and wouldn't hurt to have a big fast tackle to get out there and lead for Perrie Thomas. What do y'all think?

Re: Terron Armstead

I would love to see us trade back into the later parts of round one. If we could add an additional second or third rounder, and get an Armstead with our second pick, I'd sign up for that now.

Re: Terron Armstead

I am not concerned at all about the 40 time of an offensive tackle as long as it is below 5.3. Using that as an indicator if a guy is worth drafting to play OL is kinda Raideresque.
There is nothing wrong with your reasoning about screens and such but there are other guys I would rather have.

As far as I know, you don't have to trade
down to get a guy in the second round.

You just draft him in the first and be done with it.

I'd rather have them pick Barrett Jones if they are able to acquire a 2nd round pick and want to use it on an offensive lineman.

You would really draft Armstead (or someone like him) in the first round? You have to use a little more common sense when determining a player's value. I'm not sure the Saints are interested in moving down, but if enough impact players fall to us at 15, you know they'll at least think about trading back with the confidence that they can still get a top player in the first, to go along with the extra pick they would acquire.

Drafting a second round project at 15, whether it be Armstead or anyone else of similar value, is not smart. We can get an offensive tackle in the first round if that is deemed a greater need. But Armstead is strictly an "if he's still there" type of prospect in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

Isn't this part of the BB playbook in NE? It's not a bad strategy if you can pull it off.

"Common sense" would dictate that you read my post and its fairly clear I didn't say I wanted anyone.

BB is fairly skillful at what he does, and he also has 11M in cap to play with. We have needs, some very specific needs and can not afford to roll the dice hoping we get what we need. LT being one of them and of the best LT in the draft is only 2nd round material we still need him.

What is better value for the Saints, getting the needed LT in the first, or missing him and ending up with another RB and WR in later rounds?

If would help if people would post some meat to go along with their "what do you think".. 40yd times for an OT are fairly meaning less due to the fact the only time he will travel 40 yards in one play is when Drew completes a 50 yard pass and he need to get to the huddle.

Here is the analysis on Terron Armstead: I find his weaknesses fairly glaring.
Strengths

Armstead is a fantastic athlete for the position. He is light on his feet in pass protection, and nimble when on the move. Agile, moves well in space, shows the quickness to get to the second level and cut off linebackers. Has been asked to pull all the way across the line and has shown effectiveness in doing so. Bends and redirects well. Extends his arms to keep pass rushers at bay. Not overwhelmed by defensive twists and stunts. Does a good job of selling play fakes, draws, and screens. Weaknesses

Needs to improve lower body strength. Can get bull rushed back. Faced sub-par competition. Needs to speed up hands, and be more consistent with his aiming point. Gets to the second level quickly, but will struggle to locate his target, gets lost in space. Will lunge at defenders with his head down in the run game. NFL Comparison

Duane Brown Bottom Line

Armstead has been a fast riser in the postseason process. He's got an intriguing athletic skill set. Despite facing sub-par competition in season, he's shown the ability to be a good pass protector, and contribute as a run blocker. He can likely stay outside, although some teams might see him as a guard. He could find himself as a Day 2 pick before all is said and done.

Armstead is 9th in the grading for OT.
2013 NFL Draft Tracker

At Draft #15 I would take either Fluker who will prob be available, or Watson. I am not concerned with pass protection as much as i want a LT that can run block so we can open our running game up.
