Sedrick Ellis in contact with Saints
Free agent DT Sedrick Ellis says he has been in contact with the Saints about re-signing.
Ellis, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2008 draft, has drawn zero known interest since free agency opened, but says he's spoke with multiple clubs. Billed as a solid pass rusher coming out of USC, Ellis has just 0.5 sacks over his last 31 games. He shouldn't get much more than the minimum. Source: Alex Marvez on Twitter |

yay
NOT! |

Lets move on please

Re: Sedrick Ellis in contact with Saints
Maybe vet minimum if he could play the NT position - which I don't know if he can - he's about the same size as Bunkley, so maybe he could provide some depth at that position at least for the camp.
Not excited about him returning, but I do see some logic in the possibility under the right circumstances. |

NO Way, go somewhere else..... Please

Re: Sedrick Ellis in contact with Saints
I don't get all the negativity about this possible signing? Sure, Ellis was a bust when you look at his production compared to his salary or where he was drafted, but was he not a "serviceable" DT? If he's coming in for the vet minimum, I don't see the harm, nor do I see another DT out there who would be better. If he's just a camp body, then so be it. No harm, no foul.

Re: Sedrick Ellis in contact with Saints
I'll take the 2010 Sedrick Ellis any day. Especially at the league min.
Since his knee and ankle problems in 09, he's started almost every single game. The guy is durable. At 6'1" 308, can he bulk up and rotate in as NT or trim down and play some DE?? |
Re: Sedrick Ellis in contact with Saints
I haven't been so excited since the last time I blinked! Oop, I just blinked again. And just like that, I'm over it.

Re: Sedrick Ellis in contact with Saints
Many expect the same level of production from top picks as they had in college. That's rarely the case.
Ellis is not starter caliber in the NFL. But at the league min, he's more than valuable as a back up / role player. 2010 he was solid. Since then, rarely injured. He'll be 28 going into the season. Money makes sense, let's get him in camp and see what he's got left to prove. |

I thought it was a foregone conclusion that he would not be back in any capacity. I guess it doesn't matter, though. I don't see him making the team. |
Re: Sedrick Ellis in contact with Saints
Ellis at big money? Hell No!
Ellis at vet minumum? Hell Yes! He'd probably be just fine as part of a 3 man DT rotation. |
Re: Sedrick Ellis in contact with Saints
I wouldn't mind seeing him eat space at DE either. He'd make a versatile backup. There's really nothing to lose with these types of moves we've done lately. Leonhard, Smith, and possibly Ellis... if we can make them relevant again at the league minimum, it's a winner. If not, chop them, move on, and act like it never happened.

Re: Sedrick Ellis in contact with Saints
i think at the right price it is cool
i still say he held his ground better than Bunk last year |

He has zero ferocity. No thanks.

My first instinct is NO!
I think I'll stick with my instincts. |
Re: Sedrick Ellis in contact with Saints
Maybe if he finds his heart.

Re: Sedrick Ellis in contact with Saints
I'm not against signing him to vet minimum but let's get real here. The only reason he has been in "talks" with the Saints is because no one else wants him. That's what we in the investigatory business call a "clue".

Re: Sedrick Ellis in contact with Saints
Please no. Liked him coming out of college...hated him since. .5 sacks in his last 31 starts has to be close to worst in the league for a starter. i dont think he would start on the scout team

If you wanna claim production, I can see your point. But you are in no position to judge his heart. |
Re: Sedrick Ellis in contact with Saints
Why would anyone want him back... i don't get it.
He has got to be one of the worst DTs in the league, wait maybe that's why no one has given him a look. No other team has ever brought the guy in for a visit and we would accept him back lol.... consistently saw this guy getting pushed 6 yards back on every running play and i am sure he doesn't know what a QB looks like anymore. What a joke! If he gets brought back for any monetary compensation at all ill be disappointed. |

There's never been an issue like that with Ellis, ever. Ya'll are just making crap up. |
Re: Sedrick Ellis in contact with Saints
Ugh...get us another half a sack in the next 31 games and you've got a whole sack in 62 games...we'll name a parade after you for that accomplishment.

Re: Sedrick Ellis in contact with Saints
He's certainly worth the vet minimum. He's solid. He just hasn't been the impact player the Saints hoped for when they drafted him so highly. They have done worse.

Re: Sedrick Ellis in contact with Saints
Unless you're coaching or playing with Ellis, I don't think you can question his motivation.
We are talking about a guy who plays DT here. I'm not gushing over sacks from a DT. Haloti Nagta is arguably the best DT in the NFL and he had 5 sacks last year... What we want from Ellis is to control the line of scrimmage? Can he do that with his size? I haven't seen it too often. BUT what he can do - as Danno pointed out - is rotate in and be a rushing DT (if there is such a thing) on passing downs. League min. Prove it in camp. If not, no harm. I don't see why people are having issues with this. |
Re: Sedrick Ellis in contact with Saints
hell, I could get .05 sacks over a 31 game span!!! pay me the min

Re: Sedrick Ellis in contact with Saints
As much as i want to see him gone,we have all the cards for this deal.
1 year with a team option for a second for a small salary, incentives extension. The lack of offers this summer may well have lit a fire under his backside. The players have got used to getting deals elsewhere if the didnt play as well as they good. That has stopped, not many teams paying big bucks on long term deals for FA. He is serviceable as a back up at the very least.Fill as many holes predraft then draft who you want, not who you need. |
