So lemme get this straight, Harper and Jenkins were placed in a zone scheme that required both of them to play deep a lot. Many thouhgt it was a good fit for Jenkins, but not a good fit for Harper (including your's truly)

And when the season ended Harper ended up being graded better than Jenkins, even though Spags scheme wasn't friendly to traditional SS's and certainly didn't play to Harper's strengths, while it did play toward Jenkins' strengths.

And everyone apparently thinks Harper's spot is the one Vacarro is gonna take?

But the Saints apparently believe they have their safety of the future in Vaccaro. It remains unclear how the selection of Vaccaro will impact the future of the 30-year-old Harper, who struggled in coverage last season. Although the Saints haven't given any indication what they will do with Harper, they can save $5.2 million against the cap by releasing him.

Payton said he wasn't going to speculate about Harper's future but said there will be competition at the position.

"We'll see how it goes when (Vaccaro) comes in," Payton said. "We want to create competition. If he was available we felt like we were getting an awfully good football player. That kind of stuff will sort itself out."

Vaccaro said he doesn't know what will happen with the incumbent safeties or exactly what his role will be in first-year defensive coordinator Rob Ryan's system.

"I don't even know," he said. "I plan on doing whatever they want me to do."
