I hate to think "what if," but what if Bum hadnt made that move, and we had THAT defense, our solid running game, Morten Andersen, AND Archie at the top of his game with his experience? We should have been a top tier NFC team. Instead we wobble through with The Snake, Richard Todd, and Dave freakin Wilson. (and People who trash Bobby either forget, or arent aware of what we lived through between Archie and him. Bobby at one time represented the best chance we ever had.) JP, its great chatting to an old schooler like yourself. I hope we can always preserve the proper love Archie Manning deserves here. To be honest, I root for Peyton and Eli to this day, unless they're playing against us. cant help it. But I digress. I'd take Ronde. Im nearly 50, so 38 doesnt sound old to me. Hell, I could still run until about a year ago. |

Re: What about Saints signing Ronde Barber?
I do know Drew would be in favor of him being a Saint, no matter how old he is.

Fate was cruel sending his son in opposition to our first Superbowl appearance - it was bittersweet, mostly sweet, but I'd still pull for either Manning, even when I hate New York... |

It was no way to treat Archie after all he had done. Then again Mecom loved being the playboy owner more than winning IMO. So he really did not care
Kenny Stabler signed as a free agent. Kenny The Snake Stabler was unreal and if you could figure how creative he was at playing the spread you made good money. Still to this day no one player has ever been more creative in ways to throw a games. Tom Benson then bought the saints from Mecom, Jr. the rest is history. The saints became contenders and Mora screwed the pooch and let our DC go in favor of OC. yep there was a some friction back then on this issue. That was the beginning of the end. That was Mora's biggest mistake. The defense was gutted in the next couple of years and Mora was shown the door. Everyone forgets BUM built the Dome Patrol. So Mora needs to thank Bum for the Dome Patrol and most of his success. As for barber i say pass. enough old timers on defense. we have started a youth movement lets keep it going and take our lumps with their growing pains. |
