Joe Morgan arrested for DUI
 

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Joe Morgan was arrested in Jefferson Parish early Saturday morning for allegedly driving while intoxicated. State Police booked Morgan, 25, with DWI and driving with no license, according to arrest reports.

A trooper happened upon Morgan sometime around midnight Saturday, asleep behind the wheel of his vehicle on the Earhart Expressway near Causeway Boulevard in Jefferson, the arrest report said. The trooper woke Morgan and had him step out of the vehicle.

But the trooper noticed Morgan seemed intoxicated, according to the report. He was swaying on his feet, smelled of alcohol and had unsteady balance and bloodshot eyes, the report said.

After Morgan performed poorly on a field sobriety test, the trooper arrested him and took him the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna. Morgan's blood alcohol content registered 0.218 percent, more than twice the 0.08-percent legal limit, the arrest report said.

A records check revealed that Morgan did not have a valid driver's license, the report said. Morgan was booked Saturday at the Gretna jail. He was released the same day on a $1,150 bond.

How can a person be arrested for Driving While Intoxicated if he wasn't actually driving? He may have just decided to sleep it off in his car. Let's assume the best - Joe Morgan has not had any character issues until now.

If you are drunk behind the wheel sleeping and the keys are in the ignition, on the floor, on the seat, that constitutes a DUI. Even if you are in the parking lot. Being found on the Expressway means he got there some how. He is not getting out of this.

He will lose from a game check to $50k for a fist offense.

Yea but it wasn't that story. Im not making light of a DUI, but its not like he raped kids. He won't miss any football time, and as long as this is a wake up call and he can walk a straight path I don't see any reason to panic. Its nice to have players that are squeaky clean, but Ill take a Ray Lewis any day if he produces.

My understanding was that most teams already have a system in place where someone will pick you up for free, no questions asked.

I think I'd rather spying (if that actually occurs) than being busted drunk and asleep behind the wheel. I would think that even if spying does occur you'd probably be looked at in a positive light for making a smart decision.

Players do not want to use the NFL system because it is documented. The second to last thing a player wants is to get called on the carpet and get told they have a problem because they used the service 12 times this year.

It's also not free, keep in mind if the team pays it has to be logged against the salary cap. Most people do not realize that something as small as a team dinner is considered compensation and goes against the cap.

That being said there is zero excuse... We all know there is not one taxi driver that wouldn't bring a Saint home if he were called.

Maybe the kid deserves a second chance. It's up to the team and how much sincerity is shown by Joe.

But unfortunately for now he has earned the nickname of Captain Morgan :(
