Re: Sean Payton talks about talent evaluation
Has Payton ever let a good young player get away? Other than veterans leaving for big money contracts the only two I can think of are Ninkovich and Joique Bell. And Bell is still unproven.

Ninkovich? Yeah, but he was an injury cut on two teams before he made it. There was no way we were gonna keep him around for 2 or 3 years waiting for him to heal. The dark side of that observation is that we haven't really had an abundance of good young players, so it was easy to spot and keep the good ones. Maybe Jo-Lonn? Maybe Matt Giordano or Vonta Leach? |

Re: Sean Payton talks about talent evaluation
Our talent comes from so many different areas and competition levels that it has to be hard to make a fair evaluation. We have to go from 90 to 53 and that will require some serious evaluation. Fortunately, we have the PS.
Unfortunately, every team is probably eye balling any one who makes it to the Saints PS. I would imagine that is why we have such a high IR rate. |

Re: Sean Payton talks about talent evaluation
I was disappointed when we let Jo-lonn Dunbar go, when Vilma got injured he came in and balled out. Won the game vs titans with a last second sack in 2011
Plus he went to the rams and put in a very solid season, thats probably the only one I can think of though |

Re: Sean Payton talks about talent evaluation
Payton doesn't so much as find and keep good young players, he develops them. He looks for certain attributes that he knows he has the skill set to develop.
No one on earth knew Moore would be good. Payton just made him good. |
