Funny; we're going back to a very similar system... And now with Vaccaro in the mix; there will be times that all 3 safeties are on the field at the same time and Harper will most likely be blitzing at will
Mitch, a safety, a defensive back, should have a primary responsibility of coverage. 7.5 Sacks in how many plays in a season vs the mistackles, blown coverages, poor angles?!? As rare as they've been for this defense the last seven years, I'd give up the sacks by a safety for better coverage, better tackling, and a better turnover rate and let the front seven make the Sacks...

Does this mean that every time he breaks up a pass or makes an Interception I can use the quote 'Clever Girl'

I'm assuming everyone will get that JP reference haha

Um; isn't that the reason Vaccaro was drafted?! I want my cake and eat it too, let Harper return to multiple sacks a season and Vaccaro can handle the pass coverage

Its not simply blitzing. Its playing that traditional SS role that plays close to the line to support the LB's and cover that short to intermediate zone.

Harper did that very well and thats what he received that huge contract for.

Fifteen yards and in is where Harper shines. Outside of that 15 yards is when he gets into trouble, like most SS's do.

The real headscratcher was Jenkins. He seemed ideal for that deep centerfield saftey spot Spags runs. I'll chalk his down year up to the Spags disaster too.

He's too small to get any consistent snaps at LB, teams would run right at him, and throw right to who he's covering.

He's basically playing a LB role when he blitzes from the box, but he's usually the unblocked man due to numbers

There was a very good argument for an OLB instead and had Jenkins not come along, a nose tackle as well.
