For now we hear "it's preseason"

Week 4 "it's too early, we have a long way to go"

Week 9 "lets see if we can keep this up first"

Week 13 " we need to stay healthy before ill buy in"

Week 17 "playoff football is different from regular season football"

After we win the Super Bowl "yea, but can we three peat?"

Here is the rub, if the overly enthusiastic are right then you are headed for an I told you so, if they are wrong and we tank the season, well.... You just missed your opportunity to enjoy what could be the only enjoyable part of it.

A small % of people never learn how to enjoy anything.

Now, if you don't mind, I am going to go watch how good we looked against the Raiders..... again.

Irrational Exuberance! :)

Imagine using that "sports logic" with everything else in life:

"Don't get so excited about starting that new job you always wanted... you may get fired..."
"Don't be so excited to drive that new sports car... you may get a flat tire..."
"Don't enjoy that movie just yet... the plot may get simplistic..."
"Don't be excited you are going on a vacation to Fiji... it may rain..."
"Dont be so excited having sex with that gorgeous brunette... your wife may call..."

Or in my case: "Don't be so excited to drive that new sports car, cops frown on anything over 30 of the speed limit" :( true story

"Yes you won $300M in Powerball. But now you have to pay $150M in taxes..... Dumbarse" who wants to pay $150M in taxes.

Before the internet, there was Athlon's Pro Football, which I ritualistically inhaled, the moment it came out in JUNE. Then I waited for Sports Illustrated's College & Pro Football Spectacular -- which really is a good read, bias and all, if you go back in time and remember the names and stories. I still have pictures I've clipped from both on my Wall O Saints.

Every year, since '83, I've believed we were going to the Super Bowl. I thought we were going to win the Super Bowl, when Richard Todd was QB.
I remember struggling with the am signal from WWL, when I lived in BFEast TX, and being excited to hear pieces of a preseason game, because THIS... THIS is OUR year. It was 1985.

"Hey look, we got Jim Everett."
It just didnt matter; I Believed. And I went into work excited about
my tickets, and my new Quinn Early jersey.

I reached an age, where I realized the important thing wasnt the result. It was driving thru Lafayette, and eatin something spicy, or hopping down Poydras to the live Jazz band... Its the hurricane on Saturday night, and raising hell with the WhoDAts. Just love your Boys, and yell like hell for them, and maybe we'll mess up the 49ers or the Rams, and of course, ATL.

So the 1st date with my wife, she asks if I liked the Cowboys, or who? I
said, "Well... my team sucks, and they'll probably suck again this year... but
you're in New Orleans, so you're having fun, and our colors are black and
shiny gold, so you'll have a blast getting dressed."

We got married during the '06 season. I was feeling lucky.

-- It's the most wonderful time of the year. Enjoy it.

The greatest compliment I have received to date after my daughters/wife/parents telling me I am a good son/father/husband.

Thanks Mike.

I enjoy it plenty. I also always strive to be better, and expect the same from the teams that I root for. Work is never done.

Re: Trying to curb the enthusiasm?

It is true that this is only preseason and the Saints have only played two below average teams.

That being said...

They can only play the teams lined up against them and it's much better (and more fun) to look good against bad teams than bad against them.
