.....and we ended up getting a younger, better, faster player to take Will Smith's place, just like I said on the Smith thread.

Again, there's no downside. I don't think Haralson will be great or even a starter, but he can play the position better than Smith would have.

This is an upgrade folks.

He's gonna cover more area than W Smith; waaaay more versatile. Mentoring is key from him, too. The only downside of this trade is what we had to give up to get him. There's where my verdict lies with this move.

Re: Haralson a Saint

If we had traded somebody like Tanner or Robinson we would've heard about it by now. It's likely a mid-round draft pick (4 or 5) or a fringe OL, something like that.

Its hard to shine out in 49er land when you have studs like Brooks, Smith, Willis and company but from everything I have read and seen, we may have picked up a very solid player in Haralson. He can only help to improve our defense.

We'll see. We had to have someone to replace Smith. Hopefully he does well but I don't trust Hairball, he dangled a carrot and we bit.

Re: Haralson a Saint

Now the question is; does he have enough time to cram some playbook so we get to see him play Thursday?

Re: Haralson a Saint

Its a player that not only takes Will Smith's place on the field but I'm willing to bet will out shine any production the Saints would of gotten out of Smith. Hell its a great trade off of that fact alone.

Thank you once again Loomis for making it happen. I seriously doubt they gave the 49ers anything more then a 6-7th round pick

Re: Haralson a Saint

How did he pass the physical that fast? Concerning but what can you do...we're desperate, especially the first two games of the season. I'm guessing he'll contributes 2-3 games before the tranny goes out but hope I'm wrong and it comes back to haunt the 49ers.

I just hope we didn't give up more than a 7th round pick or Cadet.

Saintaintso 08-26-2013 10:11 PM

Re: Haralson a Saint

I think we may have given Cadet ... Robinson or Cadet was going to go anyways , either I would've been highly upset about ... But that would make sense for them having a Versitile guy

The guy is a stud at OLB in a 3-4. I followed him his whole career. I am pumped about this pick up.

With you but there is a lot of truth to what Jim Finks said and that's build your lines first. We have really struggled building a good D line, one that can stand on its own with no gimmicks and insane blitzing.

Barry from MS 08-26-2013 10:42 PM

Re: Haralson a Saint

We're getting there with the d-line. Jordan will end up requiring special attention in the blocking schemes, freeing up our LBs. Hicks needs to play with more control, but he's gonna be a beast too once he figures that out (hopefully sooner than later). The middle with Bunkley and Jenkins will be solid as well. Foster/Walker are both ideal to spell the DEs. I'm actually excited about our d-line this year, much more so than previous years. Since 2010, Smith and that nard Ellis did the line no favors, but these young ones we got now seem to be getting where they need to be to take over games late.

Saintaintso 08-26-2013 10:46 PM

Re: Haralson a Saint

Hicks and Jordan at End fresh Rotation of Foster and Walker , Constant Rotation of Jenkins , Bunkley , Heralson and Galette on Random Crashes Were going to give the Falcons problems week 1 I guarantee it

Re: Haralson a Saint

I also saw on NFL.com that it was a 7th, based on him making the team. And more comments from 9ers fans that we got a good one. One guy mentioned that he was having a really good preseason. Gotta say I like the move at this point. I don't expect to see him get much game time for the first 2-3 weeks of the season while he learns the playbook, but I really like that we finally have a guy who isn't transitioning from DE or 4-3 LB. I think he'll be making a fairly significant contribution by midseason.

Re: Haralson a Saint

Sounds like a good pickup, although I'm more excited about Martez Wilson and Junior Galette being able to get more playing time. I would not wish an injury on someone but maybe something good will come out of Will Smith being on the sidelines.

Is that wrong for me to say?

49ers trade Parys Haralson to Saints | ProFootballTalk
Comments section is interesting. Seems like he was very highly regarded by 9ers fans.

ClintSaints 08-27-2013 12:11 AM

Re: Haralson a Saint

He's been solid in preseason so far.

Against the Broncos he had four tackles, one assisted tackle, and one sack.
Against the Chiefs he had two tackles and one sack.
Against the Vikings he had one tackle.

According to Niners Nation, a 49ers blog, the 49ers were actually looking to shop Haralson even before the trade happened. But David Fucillo, who writes for the blog, states that, "Haralson has had a very solid preseason so far." So obviously, he feels that Haralson can still be an asset.

Here is a link to the article on the 49ers blog: [Update: Haralson traded] 49ers shopping Parys Haralson, per Matt Maiocco - Niners Nation

He is also a Mississippi Boy and played at Tennessee so he's closer to home. I'm curious to see the trade details though. Glad to have him and Maybe he will help enact some revenge on the 49ers this year.
