I don't know about that. Rufus is basically a Jack LB. Haralson plays mostly SAM. Right now I'm thinking Rufus is 60/40 to make the roster.

Haralson allows Wilson and Galette to focus on playing the WOLB spot.

How many LB'ers do you envision us keeping? If we keep 7, something is going to have to give. If we keep 8, his chances go up slightly... but I still don't see him making the team imo. My preference is to keep an extra lineman on either side of the ball or a secondary guy who excels on special teams than the extra linebacker. So if Haralson makes the team, for me, I just don't see it. But if we do go that route and keep an extra LB, I don't see Rufus helping us much out this year as opposed to some of the other LB's that are on the bubble. This isn't me knocking Rufus at all, I just don't feel he's ready to contribute which is why the PS imo, is the most logical scenario for both sides.

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

All little common sense goes a long way.

In a 3-4 I can see us keeping 9, especially since it appears to be our weak spot. And LB's are typically very good ST'ers.

Here's my take so far...
ILB - David Hawthorne
ILB - Ramon Humber
ILB - Curtis Lofton
ILB - Kevin Reddick (or Jonathan Vilma if healthy)
OLB - Junior Galette
OLB - Rufus Johnson
OLB - Eric Martin (or Baraka Atkins, can't decide yet)
OLB - Parys Haralson
OLB - Martez Wilson
Halo likes this.

If 9 ends up being the number, my feelings would definitely change. I'm looking at a Steelers roster projection and people anticipate them keeping 10 guys. I can't say I was familiar of how the position slot shakes up in a 3-4, so I'm just going to assume I may be wrong here regarding Rufus' likelihood of making the team... if the number is that high.

With all I have read on Haralson he will beat out Junior or Wilson on the OLB starting spot, now if he does I would love to see Wilson on the ILB spot. If this guy is as good as they say he gives us a lot more flexability to move other lb's around. Here goes. ILB's Wilson, Hawthorn, Humber, and Reddick. OLB-Galette, Haralson, Martin, Johnson. Here me out on Rufus-Haralson would be an excellent mentor for this young man and possibly unleash his potential. I like Lofton very much and think he is one of the best MLB in a 4-3 in the game today but I would shop him as soon as possible to a 4-3 team.If we are going 3-4 I would not wait until next season to put the finishing touches on the front 7. We could get a real good deal with Lofton.

Probably same amount he's been getting paid, the pay usually transfers over unless player is at their final contract year then he can negotiate terms.
His pay with San Francisco was 2.4Mil

$1.3 mil, he re-did his contract to stay this year with niners. My only concern is if we moved this fast, Wilson or Gallette are not healing as quickly as the staff would like.
