Re: Meachem breaking news

Meachem was not a bust with the Saints, but he certainly didn't live up to his draft status. First-round pick should have a career high of more than 44 catches in a season.

Still, he was a useful player.

Agreed. Meachem is more valuable to the Saints than the Chargers.
Looking at Sproles, Chargers have a way of not utilizing talent correctly.

That said, those screaming for some LB help are correct. This team has a deficit at many positions on defense. Front office and coaches are swift to pile up wide-outs. We have ample depth at wide-out, don't think we have a deficit there.

It's a proven fact Drew Brees and our offense are 10 times more potent with even a mildly effective defense. Years our defense has been depleted or weak, Drew throws more int's and the offense is less effective because they're overcompensating for a hapless defense that cannot stop an opponent.

Rather see some defensive help, but I don't run the front office.

+1. I wasn't all that shocked that things never worked for Bobby with the bolts but they (San Diego) had unrealistic expectations for him. He was never the 'go to' guy but a very decent role player while in N O land. I wouldn't expect him to have 90+ catches a season but he still has ability to stretch the field. I too would have preferred us to address the OLB position but for what it's worth lets see how it works out with Meachem.

TRUST AND BELIEVE.

Re: Meachem breaking news

Add me to the list of people that hate this move I just don't see the sense in it at all. So let me get this straight thats 7 wrs now 5 RBS 2 TES 5 inside lbers and only 3 OLB 2 out of those 3 coming off recent injury 1 of which Martez has not been able to stay health since he has been here. No wonder our defense sucks if Mickey and Sean only care about getting more Offensive players. IF we don't start bring in some defensive talent My thread on the next DC isn't looking so dumb anymore is it

{ THE Three or so people that seem to have all the answers to every thing that's posted on this site can rip me apart for saying this but I really don't care it must be tough for you guys to get in a room with brains and egos as big as yours }

6 WRs, 3 TE's; and if they're going to play in a 4-3 formation as often as it sounds like, the OLB situation is not that big of a problem.

I don't see how 3 OLBs is any less of a problem whether in the 4-3 or 3-4? Both formation schemes utilize 2 Outside Linebackers...

But I don't see it as a problem anyway when you have ILBs who can play outside, Hawthorne & Herring for certain and I bet Reddick and Humber could play outside as well if need be.

And Ryan lines players up all over and moves them around a lot pre-snap, so inside/outside doesn't really matter

Re: Meachem breaking news

Im thinking that we may be looking for something in return if we sign meachem and take that dead money off of SD's hands. At least a pick or player or Idk.. if we sign him before Sunday that's the only benefit I see.

I believe the 'dead' money stays on the Chargers as they released him; had there been a trade, then the situation changes...
