So their RT is a weak spot, and we're gonna attack it with Hicks/Jordan, Haralson, and Wilson/Galette? This is gonna be sweeeeeet!

Then why did we need Meachum at the price we had to pay to pick him up? ($5 Million unless we cut him)

???

We didn't claim him, he cleared waivers. San Diego takes the cap hit.

I'll bet we offered close to vet minimum for him, which is probably around 600,000. Chump change.

Reading my mind! That's what I was telling Caddie in the smack talk area.... Matt Ryan can't hit receivers if he doesn't have time to throw and SJ won't gain ok that side either.

Those boys are hurting.

Where are you getting your info? If he signed before Sunday it's guaranteed because he is a vet... Cutting does nothing. Chargers had to eat $5M.

Meachem signed for 1 year, for $715k

Quick Inventory

Reasons for Doubt...

(1) Outside Linebacker Depth
(2) Uncertainty of Returning Starting Safeties
(3) Questionable Defensive Coordinator
(4) Special Teams Coverage

Reasons for Optimism...

(1) Big John Jenkins
(2) Keenan Lewis
(3) Akiem Hicks
(4) Kenny Vaccaro
(5) Glenn Foster
(6) Martez Wilson
(7) Ramon Humber
(8) Cam Jordan
(9) Kenny Stills
(10) Nick Toon

oh, and, an offense led by Sean Payton and Drew Brees...

Maybe I'm just a perfectionist, but it's easier pointing out the bad, though significant issues, when we've got a lot going for us...

SaintsBro 09-04-2013 07:45 PM

Re: I'm afraid we're in trouble.

Well, in all fairness, one more reason for doubt (#4) is gonna be special teams. Based on the preseason body of work, it seems that the plan this season is going to be, give the other team the ball on the 40 or 50 at least once or twice a game, and just make Ryan deal with it, and make Brees deal with it if Ryan can't. So assume that special teams will basically add 7 or so points to whatever prediction you are making for the Falcons offense, because odds are good the special teams WILL give ridiculous field position up, or take points off the board, at least once. It's true I did fall asleep during the Miami game, but ofo the ones I was awake for, there really hasn't been a preseason game yet where something bad didn't happen on special teams to give the other team the ball around the 40 or 50 or better. Is it the end of the world? No. But it's gonna lead to at least one score in the Atlanta side of the board.

They havent taken a snap all pre season. Ill wait until they actually play to get too excited.

It doesnt matter anyway. In a rivalry like this all the players on both sides can play beyond their capabilities. We will see surprise players from both teams.

Those guys are in for a long season if they are bringing in somebody like that. He is about in the same league as Alex Barron.

As far as the D goes, listen it's a work in progress, but to sit here and say this D will be as bad as last year thats crazy talk. Oh And the fundation of a 3-4 defense is not the Linebacking corp. its the D-line.

Don't forget pass catching RBs.

Beyond their capabilities still means 7 sacks.

If your going to give +25 ability because its a rivalry then it's across the board.

I watched all of their preseason games. Lamar Holmes was horrible at RT. That said, Trueblood was nothing more than a desperation pickup. They have serious problems on the offensive line.

With their weak offensive line we will bring the pressure fast and hard. Meg Ryan won't know what to do.

We should open the season with the Falcons every year. It just adds to the anticipation. There's no team I enjoy watching lose more than them and beating them is ohso sweet. The look on Smith and Ryan's faces right after we just spanked them again is a beautiful sight.

I still enjoy watching the 49ers get that ass stomped, almost as much as the Falcons and they haven't been in our division for nearly a decade.

To this day I'd pull for Carolina or Tampa to beat the 49ers, if it doesn't harm my Saints in the standings.

Teams I hate most...
1. Anyone that stands in the way of my Saints, a Win, or playoff seeding.
2. Atlanta
3. 49ers
4. Thats enough hate for two people, so I'll just leave it at that.

The only way I'd ever pull for the Falcons or 49ers is if their winning helped the Saints. I'd just like to look at it as pulling against the other team.

Boutte 09-05-2013 06:10 PM

Re: I'm afraid we're in trouble.

Two teams I'll always hate are the Falcons and the Cowboys.. Others come and go. I hated the 49ers when we were in the same division but at the same I liked most of their players. In fact I pulled for them once we were eliminated. They're definitely back on my hate list though.

I think we are going to lose at least 5 games assuming we win all the games we need to win and should. But 5 games we will not win............

1 against Carolina
1 against Tampa Bay
At Chicago or New England
At Seattle or St.Louis
San Francisco or at Atlanta
..............We could win both those games I mentioned last but we would not win both playing all 8 quarters. Not enough rest.

It comes down to these three games that have me nervous
Atlanta
@New York J
Dallas

I don't think we beat TB week 2. The last game will depend if we can still get in or not. So these are the games that imo decide our season. Anywhere from 7-9 to 11-5.

That's what's kinda crazy. I haven't always disliked the failcons so much and I even pull for the panthers and yucks from time to time, if they're playing the coyboys or chargers or eagles. I can't figure out how I got like this.

With all due respect, if you are worried about the Jets then you have very little faith in this team.

Your not even iffy or concerned... "5 games we will NOT win"

How exactly are the Jets going to keep up with the scoreboard?

I am not even sure we will lose the Chicago and NE games given their state.

I think we will lose one at Atl and at Car. I think we will drop possibly one more, could be the San Fran game, but the good news about the San Fran game is, we could turn around and beat San Fran in the playoffs.

Whoa! 5 yards separated us from being 0-1 so I'm not ordering my Super Bowl tickets yet. Defense looked ok but we can NOT be a field goal kicking team. We have got to tighten that up. The good news is that we're starting out 1-0 and everyone else in the NFC South started out 0-1.

True. We haven't done anything more than win a game. Still, it was against Atlanta, and they do have some weapons. It may only be one win, but it was an encouraging one for sure!

It was kinda' nice for a change not having to hang your hopes for a victory on just the offense though, eh?. I said it once and I'll say it again, "It might not be pretty and we might lose a few fans along the way from heart attack, but everything's gonna' be alright",.

A goal line stand against a lethal offense where our rookie draft pick; that most didn't want, broke up a pass to a Hall of Fame TE is hardly frame-able as a ho-hum 5 yard separation between W/L

The more important thing is that we won a close game, and one we could have lost at the end. Once you start winning those it tends to repeat because the team THINKS they're going to win them. On the other hand, for the second game in a row, the failcons failed to score the winning touchdown when they had four plays right under the goal post. Losing like that can become a self fulfilling prophesy.

If the Falcons and the 49ers play each other I pray for the stadium to fall apart and have the teams both hurt but no one killed.

I spent too many years with the 49ers beating us to EVER pull for them, even if they played Atlanta. Too bad there is not a way for both to lose, unless the whole stadium thing can happen.

You're absolutely right and I like your style working that Failclown fun-fact in there at the end,. But it is true, look at the leads Can'tlanta lost last season, especially in the playoffs, did they even think they could hold onto a 10pt lead in the Mercedes-Benz Dome? Like you said, 'self-fulfilling prophecy',.

SaintsBro 09-09-2013 10:18 AM

Re: I'm afraid we're in trouble.

That team we played yesterday was in the NFC Championship game just last year. There's no reason for ordering next year's Super Bowl ring yet, but you can't play the "it's only preseason against the Raiders, I'm still not impressed" card, on a win like that. It was big.

The thing I felt was, look at the overall flow of the game: stuff got harder and harder for the Falcons offense to do, as the game went on, and it definitely got easier for the Saints offense to do what they wanted to do. THAT is how a game is supposed to look, especially a defense.
