DLP? I agree, he looks like the weak link. Evans has actually been our worst O-lineman, but thats 100% due to playing injured in my opinion. A healthy Evans would solidify that interior. |
Re: I'm afraid we're in trouble.
O-Line performance is weighted heavier on "Unit cohesion and performance as a unit" than individual strengths and weaknesses. You could pull the top 5 offensive lineman and if they do not play well as a unit there will be issues.
Our O-Line issues this season are more about having made changes than what changes were made. its 1500+ lbs of synchronized swimming. |

Brown has been called for holding in every game, well maybe not the Bucs game, but I think the ref called that on Evans in error because Brown ws definitely holding though Evans clearly wasn't and analysts questioned as much...; certain plays linger in my mind, like Drew's awful interception against the Bucs made more awful by Brown's attempt to stop the return... Grubbs? Dude got thrown like a toy in the MNF Miami game; and for what he's contracted, he should be doing the throwing... DLP worked his tail off to get here and is either injured (not reported) or is in a "I'm just happy to be here" mode which is good for traveling church choir attitudes but Not For Long in the NFL... Do Agree with regards to the Evans injury and his very competent backup's Leilito's injury having a significant effect; but we put two offensive linemen on IR to start the season so who's gonna cry them a river?!? Is it too late to trade Mark Ingram to the Rams (where he'd be a better fit) for Barrett Jones?!? http://cdn.bleacherreport.net/images...gif?1357619538 |

Interior Line is definitely a priority as I think 8mil is 6mil too much for guard(s) so I'd geaux Rookie Uber-Guards that still want to run block, especially when we've got the 16.3mil Tight End Contract coming... Ever scouting report I've read on Jones talks about his smarts and personality - he'd be the modern day Art "Fatso" Donovan and would study and call the blocking assignments under a Payton/Brees Tutelage...now that intrigues my football brain like Isla Fisher (Wedding Crashers) would intrigue other parts of my brain... |

Is this the week the Offensive Line gels and we get a running game going?!?

Well the running game actually got going when we needed it - then we abandoned it?!?

Re: I'm afraid we're in trouble.
Well, to pick up on the discussion on the previous thread, aside from the Saints not being among the league/zebra favorables...
Jahri Evans seems to be getting his groove back... But, we still can't run on the left side, we're still holding on the left side... and I didn't think anyone could look worse than Zach Strief in footwork(God Bless him), but Charles Brown was awful yesterday... Brees seemed rattled checking over his blindside often causing him to miss open receivers in his reads progression... The sting of games continued with another hold penalty... And there were the "Lookout" Blocks... How soon till Armstead is ready or is he going to be an athletic Right Tackle?!? Payton said at the beginning of the season he was losing sleep with regards to the Left Tackle position, which begs the question: Did that factor into Payton's end-game playcalling and Brees inablity to gain his rhythm as well?!? |
Re: I'm afraid we're in trouble.
I thought the O-line did Ok, there was some hiccups, but for the most part, they gave Brees plenty of time and were opening up some running lanes. I forget at which point in the game they posted the stats for QB sacks/hurries, but they were pretty lopsided in favor of the Saints/Drew ... I think Brady had something like 5 sacks to Drew's 1 and the pressure was on Brady far more then Drew all night, IMO.

Re: I'm afraid we're in trouble.
So now that we finally lost one, are we now in trouble? Or is this an opportunity from which to grow and get better as a team?
|
Re: I'm afraid we're in trouble.
Are we still in trouble after this loss to Seattle?

We got out game planned, they were prepared for everything and adjustments didn't work either. Just find a way to get back up there in the playoffs.
