5 Wide - Empty Set
I was really excited to see how we would employ all that speed and skill we have at the WR, RB and TE positions.
Against Atlanta we employed the 5 wide, empty look 9 times. Brees missed Graham on the first play, because Atlanta applied quick pressure. But the set was lethal the rest of the way. All in all, Brees was 7 of 9 when working out of the empty set. 7 of 9 for 168 yards. Seems like Payton found a quick balance to using the formation |

I loved it, anxious to see all the wrinkles Payton has come up with in utilizing this awesome formation

Re: 5 Wide - Empty Set
Empty backfield puts intense pressure on the O-line to hold up.
I hope they're up to the task. |

Made possible due to the commitment to the run to keep 'em honest; yeah Ingram's paltry yds/rush is bad, but it is part of an effective game plan... |

When there is no one but Drew in the backfield what is there to keep honest? They know what's coming.... Just can't handle it. |

The run helps the PA when in heavy formations. I hope SP doesn't get too carried away with trying to run the ball. Keeping the D honest is great but at some point you have to stick with the passing game when we are running for 2.5 YPC. This will always be a passing team, we just need a running game slightly above average for some type of balance. |
