That's the difference. The Saints with Payton can finish games, while the Payton-less Saints couldn't. That's the problem with the Yucc's, they have a dead fish for a head coach. (hey, at least Mike Smith is funny to look at when he is mad.).

The 11 saints would've fallen in that trap game and did ... I think this team has much more resolve and fight than our predecessors ...

Bucs had the game and gave it away is right. They just couldn't seal the deal.

This game was pretty ugly for us but I will take the W. Think a lot of things need sorting out over the next week before we play the Cards!
Nice to be 2-0 though, but again, too may injuries. GEAUX SAINTS. |

Re: One thing about Tampa
I know this sounds totally goofy but the NFL ought to consider experimenting with a "penalty box" type of situation instead of fines. Where if you get called for a really blatant illegal hit, you get put in an orange padded box and have to spend X amount of defensive snaps on the sideline before you are let back in.
The fines aren't working, because the players earn so much. And I have no hard proof but I really do believe that coaches or teams are covering for some of the fines, either under the table, or in other ways (signing bonus, workout bonus etc). But if defensive players were forced to immediately come out the game for leading with the helmet or making cheap shot hits, I think it would reduce them considerably. Because then the coaches and fans would get mad at the players, instead of celebrating them, it would give the backup player some time to make his mark, which would harm a first-string player a lot more than a fine, and make him think twice about doing it again. Because these fines they get are basically what he spends at "the club" with his posse on a typical Saturday night. It could be something like a 10 play ejection or something. But the fines are definitely NOT working the way Goodell intends them to work; like everything else he does, it blows up in his face. |

I think a clearly defined level of punishment similar to a 'penalty-box' system would do well in the NFL ... make 'em sit for a predetermined amount of time per infraction & force the team to play someone from the bench (shorthanded like in the NHL probably wouldn't work). We could call it a "millionaires time-out", ![]() ![]() |

A coach and a QB away.... That is huge in the NFL.
It only took the Saints 39 years to get those two pieces. |

Re: One thing about Tampa
I have to say I'm surprised that we were out 'nastied' by the Bucs early. Much like we set the tone with the Falcons and they were bewildered. I DON'T like the number of hits Drew is taking in the pocket tho. Makes me REALLY nervous!
