Most of these so called defenseless players are getting hit on crossing patterns. Take the Floyd Hit for example that was a good clean hit. or all the times Austin collie got his concussion's they were going acrossed the middle. You have to Admit the placement of the ball has a lot to say whether these receivers are going to get clocked or not

Re: Goldson suspended for hit on Sproles
I was on board with the safety precautions taken by him whose name I will not mention. For the simple fact that players were getting to the point that it was more important to lay a player out with a monster hit so they could get on sports center than it was to tackle said player. I said a few years ago that if something isn't done to stop this we are going to watch a player lose more than his mobility or memory later in life. We were going to see a corpse being carted off the field. Now having said that I do feel that the NFL has gone too far in the other direction at times because they are asking players to do things that are physically impossible. As for the Bucs defense, they are as dirty as they come. That hit on Graham was intentional and intended to injure. That guy needs to be suspended as well.

I'm sick of the safety crap myself, and sick of hearing about it. Its ruining football. No one is forcing anyone to play football. And you get a free college education for playing in school, so you should come away with a degree, and a head start. I love the players, and I believe they should take care of the guys who played in the past. But the game itself is now threatened by all this safety crap. It is likely to become unrecognizable, and even more litigated on the field than it already is. Already the officiating is playing way too large a role in the game. Its more like watching People's Court, than a contact sporting event. Have everyone sign a "sh** happens" clause in their contract, waiving all liability from on-field/in-game contact. If you dont want to play, thats perfectly fine, but someone else will. Enough safety! We didnt have safety when I was a kid. Lets play football. |

Re: Goldson suspended for hit on Sproles
Hitting with the intent to knock a guy out the game and dislodge the ball was all I was ever taught. I didn't do much of it for my OWN safety, because hitting hurts just as bad as being hit sometimes. Physicality in that regard wasn't my forte. But I like a player like Goldson. If this was '95 everybody would love Goldson. Rodney Harrison. Brian Dawkins. Ronnie Lott. Mel Blount. I'm okay with this type of play. I understand the suspension from the aspect of all the personal could he's already had, but in the grand scheme a lot of those fouls were probably dumb and shouldn't have been called.
