Anybody hear Randy Mueller last night?
Randy was interviewd on Inside the Saints last night.
I'm starting to think I'd like to have this guy back. He said something I hadn't thought of before. He said Jim was a good coach but is now wearing two hats. Loomis is a talent guy and the front office is placing a lot of the evaluation on Haslett's shoulders. He said Jim has told him it was a bit burdensome. I'm certainly no Haz apologist but I wonder if he's experiencing the same problem Holmgren had 3 years ago. Too many hats. We need a football GM. I love how Loomis handles the money but we need a football guy in charge. Randy wasn't the best GM but he didn't suck either. I'm not convinced Haslett's job would improve significantly but I am certain it wouldn't get any worse. |

Mueller was the best GM we\'ve had since Jim FInks. He made deals and always brought in raw talent. He was criticized for bringing in project players like Dale Carter, but he also made the Ricky Williams trade which was genius.
I agree that Haz is a coach and the model of coach and GM never works. I also agree that Loomis makes the deals after Haz picks who he wants. I agree with you that Haz\'s plate is full and is not doing a great job of managing the team from week to week, but then again the streakiness that the Saints have started after the first season when Meuller was around. I still thing getting rid of Mueller was a mistake. I also believe that Meuller would never have fired Haz, a situation we are in now because it looks like Haz will be with us for another few years until his contract runs out. It\'s hard to ponder. |

I agree... Randy is GREAT. Benson needs to bring him back. The team made the largest improvement when Randy was there and hasn\'t done anything with out him.

Quick question - what talent does Haslett have to scout in season? How does this effect his coaching during the year?
I can understand it being difficult in the off-season, but come the first game of the year, isn\'t the head coach the \"talent evaluator\" anyway? Doesn\'t he decide who plays, when, in what packages, etc? Is evaluating talent in-season such a tremendous burden as to explain why Haslett gets outcoached all the time? |

Another quick question.....you think anyone\'s ever going to offer St. Randy a real job???? I\'ve heard he\'s been granted a couple of interviews for front office positions in the last few years since he\'s been unemployed, but hasn\'t been able to convince an owner to hire him.
