2. If you\'re talking WR, then sure, but I wouldn\'t spend a 1st round pick on him. 3. If you\'re talking QB--Why do you want to draft another sandlot player who is at his best when freelancing and has a career marked by making dumb decisions that either get you the win by sheer dumb luck or cost you the game when all you need is a field goal. 4. I see Jones play every weekend. I can see him going on the 1st day, but not in the first round. He isn\'t the best QB in the SEC, much less college football. I agree that we will need to draft a QB, but I hope that the new head coach will prioritize other areas first. There is probably no one on this board than me that wants a new QB, I just don\'t see how Jones is it. It would be 5 more years of the Aaron Brooks debate. |

Aaron Brooks isn\'t always the consistent starter that we all want. He still makes mistakes, fumbles, makes slow decisions and bad reads, etc.
But if I was going to draft a QB next year, I\'d draft a QB in the 3rd round at the earliest who had some pretty solid stats. He\'d have to show a good work ethic, someone who could make Aaron think that his starting job was in jeopardy. Oh no, I\'m getting Aaron Brooks into a debate about draft picks. :casstet: Quickly! Back to Derrick Johnson! Derrick seems to be a solid, consistent player on the Texas defense. But he looks like he\'d be in the top 5 list. Now the question remains: will the Saints do poorly enough to get the 5th overall pick or better? [Edited on 14/10/2004 by themightyduck] |
When it comes to discussing Saints losses, Jack Daniels can be a great listener.

I\'m guessing we finish around .500 again (which is not a good thing) so we will should be looking at Ahmed Brooks (LB, Virginia), if he comes out or Kirk Morrison (LB, San Diego ST).
If Rod Wright (DT, texas) comes out and is on the board, we should consider him as well. There is also Anttaj Hawthorne (DT, wisconsin). For those that say OL - Alex Barron (OT, FSU) is tops and I would be all for drafting him. Jammal Brown (OT, Oklahoma) is another possibility. If every other option is gone, we could go with Michael Munoz (OT, Tennessee). USC\'s LT - Winston Justice was suspended. Not sure if he is a JR or a SR. Assuming he is the later, he would be a great mid-round pick (he was projected 1st round). And there is always CB. If we totally bomb this season and get a top 5 pick (would have to be higher than the pick the Cowboys are getting from the Bills), we would HAVE to take Antrel Rolle (CB, Miami). There are projections now with him going #1 overall. When was the last time a CB had that much hype? If we got that high pick and Rolle is gone, Derrick Johnson should be the pick (as others mentioned). Whatever the case, we got tons of options. |

How about center, so bentley can go back to his original spot.
CB, LB, maybe even QB by the season\'s end!! |

I think people are overracting about our need for a Center. That is a tough position to switch too, especially in the NFL. I think Bentley will be a great center (though I agree that he isn\'t right now).
As for draft picks, Hawthorne is a complete beast! I like him a lot. However, I think we have a much bigger need at LB. Here are my positional picks (provided Thomas can get healthy and play at the level he did last year): 1. LB (preferably MLB so that Watson can move to WLB). 2. DT 3. CB (I think two and three are roughly equal in terms of need right now, but DTs have impact sooner, so I think that will benefit us more). 4. OT (I\'m not convinced that you can get a great OT much outside the first two rounds, but I say try) 5. S (I know few people will agree with this, but T-buck is fine though not great, and Bellamy will soon be VERY old). 6. QB (We need a back up) |

I actually agree with just about everything you said J. Granola. Nice post.

I also think we need to use the first pick for a QB and the second for a MLB. If Brooks can\'t get it done this year let him ride the bench for the last few years of his contract. He\'s a pretty good number two.

Who,
Some days you bring a smile to my face. I\'m glad we agree on this one. We have a QB. He\'s a fine starter in this league. Sure he gives us fits, but there are only a handful of QBs starting in this league who wouldn\'t give us fits. Brett Favre is a total stud, but some days he looks WAY worse than good ol\' AB. Why would we WASTE a high pick on a QB when our D needs so much help? |
